INTRODUCTION: Pneumatic tourniquets use in surgery to create a bloodless surgical field. The majority of orthopaedic surgeon use a tourniquet inflated above systemic blood pressure during arthroscopic anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. A tourniquet use is not free of complications. The disadvantage of tourniquet application include an increased risk of vascular injuries. An arthroscopic ACL reconstruction in patient with history of popliteal artery ligation is challenging. The popliteal artery is the major contributor to the blood supply of the knee joint. This arthroscopic ACL r

OBJECTIVE: Sheehan's syndrome (SS) is a rare endocrine disorder caused by ischemic necrosis of the anterior pituitary gland secondary to massive postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) and shock. It commonly leads to multiple hormonal deficiencies, such as adrenal insufficiency, hypothyroidism, and hypopituitarism. Affected individuals may present with signs and symptoms including weight gain or loss, cold intolerance, hair loss, menstrual irregularities, and hypotension. Diagnosis is often delayed due to its nonspecific presentation and overlap with conditions like postpartum depression and chronic fatig

BACKGROUND: Motion sickness occurs worldwide in healthy individuals regardless of age, ethnicity, or gender. It is an acute disorder; it can also present as a chronic disorder in some individuals. Motion sickness not only includes vomiting and nausea, but also includes other features such as pallor of varying degrees, cold sweating, headache, drowsiness, increased salivation, and cranial pain, which are severe. Some of the other assessment scales can interpret sickness on exposure to virtual or visual stimulation and while travelling in different types of transport.

Salmonellosis, caused by Salmonella species, is one of the most common foodborne illnesses worldwide with an estimated 93.8 million cases and about 155,00 fatalities. In both industrialized and developing nations, Salmonellosis has been reported to be one of the most prevalent foodborne zoonoses and is linked with arrays of illness syndromes such as acute and chronic enteritis, and septicaemia. The two major and most common Salmonella species implicated in both warm-blooded and cold-blooded animals are Salmonella bongori and Salmonella enterica. To date, more than 2400 S. enterica serovars whi

The association between weather-related variables or seasons and the development of Bell's palsy (BP) is controversial. This study aimed to evaluate the incidence and clinical characteristics of BP and assess the effects of meteorological factors on seasonal and monthly incidence. This retrospective population-based study used data from the Korean Health Insurance claims database (NHICD) from 2010 to 2018, in which annual, seasonal, and monthly incidence rates and age and sex distributions were calculated. A multivariate linear regression and autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) mo

BACKGROUND: Sudden cardiac death (SCD) is an important contributor to the global burden of cardiovascular disease. Previous studies have reported an association with extremes in temperature in the hours and days leading up to SCD, but there has been little investigation focusing on the months and year before an SCD event. Therefore, the objective of this study was to investigate the relationship between short-, medium-, and long-term temperature and SCD.
METHODS: Temperature predictions using 800-m Parameter-Elevation Regressions on Independent Slopes Model data were used to estimate monthly

BACKGROUND: Accidental hypothermia with severe frostbite is a rare combination of injuries with a high risk for long-term sequelae. There are widely accepted recommendations for the management of avalanche victims and for frostbite treatment, but no recommendation exists for the treatment of frostbite in severe hypothermic patients, specifically for the management of hypothermic avalanche victims presenting with frostbite.
CASE PRESENTATION: We present a case of a previously healthy, 53-year-old male skier who was critically buried by an avalanche at 2300 m of altitude at an ambient temperatu

BACKGROUND: Manual therapists mostly see patients with bilateral leg symptoms. Pain, pins and needles, fatigue, heaviness, lower limb coldness, and loss of neurological conduction are the patients' symptoms. It is hypothesized to be caused by the sympathetic nervous system. Few publications cover its pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment. Limited research has examined the consequences of soft tissue release (STR) at the thoracolumbar junction. This case describes STR in a patient with bilateral leg symptoms.
CASE REPORT: A 39-year-old female presented with bilateral leg symptoms, especial

BACKGROUND: Adhesive capsulitis or contracted shoulder, known as frozen shoulder, is a persistent painful condition that may last for more than three months. It is a common disease-causing morbidity that causes pain and loss of shoulder range of motion. Physical therapy is advocated for the restoration of a pain-free state and normal use of the upper extremity, along with other interventions.
PURPOSE: This study aimed to explore the level of current clinical practice for managing chronic contracted frozen shoulder (CCFS) among physiotherapy professionals in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) comp

Yaks have strong adaptability to extremely cold and hypoxic conditions but are susceptible to high ambient temperature when yaks are raised in low-altitude areas during the high-temperature season. Twenty-four adult male yaks with similar weights and ages were randomly divided into TN (Thermoneutral, altitude = 3464 m), LHS (Light heat stress, altitude = 1960 m), and MHS (Medium heat stress, altitude = 906 m) groups to evaluate adaptation strategies to HS. Non-targeted and targeted metabolomics were applied to investigate the effects of different extents of HS on yaks. LHS- and MHS-yaks showed

The incidence and geographic range of vector-borne diseases have been expanding in recent decades, attributed in part to global climate change. Blacklegged ticks (Ixodes scapularis), the primary vector for multiple tick-borne pathogens in North America, are spreading rapidly beyond their historic post-colonial range and are thought to be constrained mainly by winter temperature at northern latitudes. Our research explored whether winter climate currently limits the distribution of blacklegged ticks and the pathogens they transmit in Maine, U.S.A., by contributing to overwinter mortality of nym

BACKGROUND: Exercise-induced anaphylaxis (EIA) is a unique physical allergy that is triggered by exertion, the clinical spectrum and modifying factors of which have been previously studied. At the time of initial description, it was postulated that other factors contributed to this disorder.
OBJECTIVE: We sought to determine the clinical course and potential modifying factors in EIA.
METHODS: In 1993, we conducted a cross-sectional analysis of 671 individuals with exercise-associated symptoms for more than a decade using a validated 75-item questionnaire. Subjects met criteria for EIA if the

Three exercise-related heat illnesses are described in the literature -- heat cramps, heat exhaustion or heat syncope, and heat stroke. Of these, only exercise-induced heat stroke, which occurs infrequently, is definitely a heat illness caused by an increased rate of heat production unmatched by adequate heat loss causing progressive heat retention with the body temperature rising to dangerously high levels (> 41 degrees C). The terms heat cramps and heat exhaustion are misleading as neither is caused by an elevated body temperature; nor is there evidence that either is caused by specific flui
