The Bosworth fracture-dislocation is a rare fracture-dislocation of the ankle where the proximal fibular fragment lodges behind the tibia, rendering it irreducible by routine closed manipulations. Clinically the patient's foot is in severe external rotation. This external rotation makes the initial roentgenograms difficult to interpret. Consequently, the diagnosis is often overlooked, resulting in inappropriate treatment and a disastrous outcome. A review of the literature concerning the classification, etiology, histology and treatment of congenital pseudarthrosis of the tibia is presented. Traumatic dislocations of the first metatarsophalangeal joint were first described by Mouchet in 1931. The anatomical complexity of the first metatarsophalangeal joint makes this injury one of a kind. There have been only been a limited number of case reports of this injury, but none in combination with open fractures of both sesamoids. We would like to report 1 case of an open traumatic dislocation of the first metatarsophalangeal joint with open fracture of the fibular and tibial sesamoid. Open reduction and internal fixation of the injury led to a successful outcome.

A 19-year-old man, who was involved in a motorcycle accident, sustained a combined bony and vascular injury to his right lower extremity that required emergency surgery. Postoperatively, the patient developed a life-threatening, necrotizing, soft-tissue infection and sepsis. The authors present their own two-year experience with osteosynthesis of 54 fractures of the diaphysis of the leg in 51 patients, using a UTN nail without predrilling, at the Orthopaedic Clinic of the Institute for Postgraduate Medical Training in Prague Bulovka Hospital.
