Successful endoscopic management of 3 cases of translocated intrauterine devices: a case report.

Intrauterine devices (IUDs) are the most popular form of contraception globally; however, the use of IUDs carries some risks. IUD migration is a rare but serious complication that occurs after insertion, sometimes years later. Herein, we report 3 cases of translocated IUDs removed by endoscopy and describe the clinical characteristics and intraoperative findings of these patients. Case 1 was a 46-year-old woman who presented with upper abdominal pain. Gastroscopy showed the presence of an IUD inside the stomach. Digestive endoscopy performed at our hospital showed a T-shaped foreign body embed

Transgastric migration of retained intraabdominal surgical sponge: Gossypiboma in the fundus.

The retention of a surgical sponge is a rare complication that presents diagnostic challenges and carries the risk of potential complications. Two distinct foreign body reactions, fibrinous, and exudative, can result in the formation of a granuloma (known as gossypiboma) or lead to complications such as abscess formation and migration into the gastrointestinal tract. In this report, we present the case of a 33-year-old woman with a history of splenectomy who presented with symptoms including epigastric pain, vomiting, and episodes of hematemesis. Imaging studies, including computed tomography

Retroperitoneal glass foreign body with renal parenchymal involvement after 25 years of silent retention: a case report.

We report a 46-year-old woman in whom a glass foreign body retained in the retroperitoneum for 25 years caused recurrent exertional gross haematuria after apparent migration through the quadratus lumborum muscle into the upper renal pole and calyceal system. A penetrating thoracolumbar injury sustained in a motor vehicle accident 25 years earlier had gone untreated. Initial evaluation at an outside institution attributed the symptoms to nephrolithiasis for over 12 months. Multiphase contrast-enhanced CT demonstrated two hyperdense foreign-body fragments (∼1,150-1,200 HU) along a single track e

Ionised hypercalcaemia in a cat with extrahepatic biliary tract obstruction secondary to a bile duct vegetal foreign body.

CASE SUMMARY: A 10-year-old neutered female domestic shorthair cat was presented to our hospital with a 2-day history of anorexia, vomiting and lethargy. The biochemistry panel revealed increased hepatic enzyme activity and serum amyloid A concentration. Haematological values were within reference intervals. An abdominal ultrasound identified a hyperechoic spindle-shaped structure within the common bile duct and a suspected secondary subobstruction, associated with signs of intra- and extrahepatic biliary tract inflammation. During hospitalisation, the cat developed severe and sustained ionise

Periorbital Lumps After the Injection of Hyaluronic Acid of Forehead: A Complication of Facial Fillers.

With the increasing application of hyaluronic acid injection, the complications are gradually increasing. Fillers are implants, and essentially foreign bodies, and filler injection is a blind procedure in which the physician is unable to see exactly where the material is placed. With these characteristics, injectable fillers have the potential for a myriad of complications. During this case, we found that with the correct diagnosis of filler migration and hypersensitivity reactions and injecting hyaluronidase immediately, good clinical results can be obtained.

Incidental Radiological Finding of an Intravenous Needle in a Pediatric Cervical Spine.

Cases of cervical foreign bodies are considered rare, and cases of needle that have migrated into the spinal canal are fairly uncommon. The most well-documented cases are those of acupuncture needles. We present a case of an incidental finding of an intravenous needle extending posteriorly between C7 and T1 interspinous space and ending at the level of C5-C6 interspace in a 2-year-old boy. We discuss the possible port of entry and the management of such findings.

Migration of a Contraceptive Subdermal Device Into the Lung.

Subdermal contraceptive implants are usually inserted subdermally and carry the possibility to migrate within a small range, usually less than 2 cm from the insertion sites; significant migration over 2 cm is rare. This paper discusses the case of a 38-year-old female patient with a migrated subdermal Implanon contraceptive implant in the left pulmonary artery. On chest computed tomography, roughly a 4 cm long linear hyperdensity foreign body in the left lower lobe was found and was favored to be a migrated Implanon in a subsegmental pulmonary artery branch. An interventional radiologist perfo

Sequential morphological changes of the constrictive basilar artery in a canine model of experimental cerebral vasospasm by talc injection.

To demonstrate the possible role of foreign-body reaction to extravasated blood in provoking chronic cerebral vasospasm, talc (crystallized hydrous magnesium silicate) was injected as a non-biologic foreign material into the canine-cisterna cerebellomedullaris, and pathologic changes were followed. Angiographically, this cisternal talc injection induced delayed and prolonged constriction of the basilar artery, without any evidence of so-called early phase cerebral vasospasm that should occur shortly after an insult. Pathologically, around the spastic artery in the subarachnoid space with talc

Real-Time In Vitro Migration Assay for Primary Murine CD8+ T Cells.

The adaptive immune response is reliant on a T cell's ability to migrate through blood, lymph, and tissue in response to pathogens and foreign bodies. T cell migration is a complex process that requires the coordination of many signal inputs from the environment and local immune cells, including chemokines, chemokine receptors, and adhesion molecules. Furthermore, T cell motility is influenced by dynamic surrounding environmental cues, which can alter activation state, transcriptional landscape, adhesion molecule expression, and more. In vivo, the complexity of these seemingly intertwined fact

X-ray turns a blind eye to ferrous metal.

The case is reported of a 31-year-old man with a retained metallic intraocular foreign body (IOFB) in the left eye who underwent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for investigation of a subsequent unrelated brachial plexus injury Despite the patient providing good history of IOFB, the decision to proceed with MRI was based on screening orbit X-ray which was reported as normal. A review of published reports regarding screening recommendations for MRI for patients with IOFB is provided. A minimum recommendation is for prescreening questionnaire; belief of the patient history is critical. If there

Small bowel obstruction induced by migrated sacropexy mesh: a case report.

INTRODUCTION: Small bowel obstruction (SBO) is a frequent cause of surgical emergency, most commonly due to adhesions, hernias, or tumors. Mesh-related SBO following laparoscopic sacropexy is an exceptionally rare complication, often presenting years after the initial procedure and difficult to diagnose preoperatively. CASE PRESENTATION: We report a 69-year-old Caucasian woman with a history of laparoscopic sacropexy for cystocele repair using mesh eight years prior, presenting with abdominal pain, bilious vomiting, and distension. Laboratory tests revealed leukocytosis and elevated inflammat

Rare and fatal late-term complication of endovascular aneurysm repair: Migration of the endograft into the duodenum.

Endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) is a treatment method that has become increasingly popular for abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) due to its ease of application, reduced hospital stay, and its suitability as an alternative for patients who cannot tolerate open surgery. Although the early outcomes of EVAR are better than those of open surgery, complications such as endoleak, migration, thrombosis or kinking of the endograft limbs, graft infection, and secondary rupture may occur. In this study, we present a patient who underwent EVAR at another institution approximately 10 years earlier and w

Permanent Prostate Brachytherapy Placement: Imaging Assessment of Seed Positioning, Spacer Use, and Complications.

Low-dose-rate (LDR) brachytherapy with iodine 125 (125I) seeds is an effective treatment of localized prostate cancer, delivering targeted doses to the prostate while minimizing radiation exposure to adjacent tissues. 125I seeds implanted under transrectal US guidance provide tailored radiation distribution through loose or stranded configurations. Loose seeds allow flexible placement but carry a higher migration risk than stranded seeds. Optimal placement strategies involve targeting the peripheral zone near the prostate capsule to achieve adequate dose coverage for potential extracapsular ex

Clinical application of external fixation in preventing displacement of high-position airway stents: 2 case reports.

RATIONALE: Airway stenosis and tracheoesophageal fistulas are life-threatening emergencies, often complicated by asphyxia, recurrent infections, and fatal outcomes. Tracheal stent implantation is effective, but stent migration remains a critical complication, especially in subglottic high-position airway pathologies. This report aims to demonstrate an external stabilization technique to prevent stent migration in this high-risk group. Such cases are rarely reported. PATIENT CONCERNS: Two representative clinical cases with subglottic high-position airway pathologies requiring stent implantatio
