Aging sexuality: knowledge and perceptions of preparation among U.S. primary care providers.

Primary care providers are expected to address the sexual health concerns of older adults. This study aimed to assess knowledge of aging sexuality and adequacy of formal sexual health education in a sample of U.S. physicians and nurse practitioners in primary care. Response rate was 24.9% (N = 278). Knowledge scores reflected good knowledge; however, only 3% of the sample felt that they had adequate knowledge of older adult sexuality. Training was found to be adequate for 11% of the sample. U.S. providers in primary care are interested in learning more about aging sexuality but feel ill-prepar

Barriers and facilitators to oral healthcare support in gestational diabetes mellitus: An interview study with healthcare professionals.

AIM: Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory oral disease characterised by the persistent activation of immune cells, which contributes to insulin resistance and, consequently, an increased risk of systemic diseases, including gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). At the same time, the risk of periodontitis is higher in individuals with diabetes, with higher glycaemic levels being the primary contributing factor. Oral health review is also advised in diabetes care by the NICE guidelines, because of its impact on blood glucose management. However, oral health may be overlooked in GDM due to the

Treatment of leprosy: science or politics?

OBJECTIVE: To review the history of the treatment of leprosy and leprosy reactions after World War II. METHODS: Treatments based on experience and clinical evidence are compared with those advised by the WHO in their quest to eliminate leprosy by the year 2000, later extended to 2005. RESULTS: Leprosy is not eliminated. Analyses of data on reaction treatment suggest that the treatment regimens for leprosy reactions as advised by the WHO may lead to more impairment among leprosy patients than the 'old' established regimes. CONCLUSION: WHO policies to eliminate leprosy may have jeopardized th

The correlation between maternal knowledge of breastfeeding, self-efficacy of breastfeeding and knowledge and attitudes towards donated human milk: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: The World Health Organization (WHO) endorses breast milk as the optimal nutritional source for infants. When maternal lactation is insufficient due to multifactorial causes or breastfeeding is contraindicated by maternal illness, donated human milk (DHM) is recommended as the preferred alternative feeding strategy. This study aims to investigate correlations between maternal breastfeeding knowledge, breastfeeding self-efficacy, and DHM-related knowledge/attitudes, and to identify factors influencing maternal DHM knowledge and attitudes. Findings will inform targeted strategies to o

Self-Medication for Upper Respiratory Tract Infections (URTIs) Among Clinical Medical Students: A Cross-Sectional Study of Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices.

BackgroundSelf-medication, defined as the use of medicines without prior professional consultation, is a widespread public health concern. When practiced inappropriately, particularly through the misuse of antibiotics, it contributes to adverse drug reactions and the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Medical students represent a population of particular interest, as their clinical knowledge may predispose them to self-treat conditions such as upper respiratory tract infections (URTIs), which are predominantly viral and self-limiting. This study aimed to assess the prevalence of

Knowledge, attitude and practice towards intestinal schistosomiasis among school-aged children and adults in Amhara Regional State, northwest Ethiopia. A cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Schistosoma mansoni causes intestinal schistosomiasis (SCH) in all regions of Ethiopia. Despite many years of mass treatment, the prevalence has not dropped significantly. The reduction of SCH transmission demands the integration of deworming with safe water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) activities. Adequate knowledge and a positive attitude towards SCH are critical to practicing those interventions. However, data on the knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) level in school and community settings is limited in Ethiopia. METHODS: School and community-based cross-sectional studi
