The impact of gut microbiota on the occurrence, treatment, and prognosis of ischemic stroke.

Ischemic stroke (IS) is a cerebrovascular disease that predominantly affects middle-aged and elderly populations, exhibiting high mortality and disability rates. At present, the incidence of IS is increasing annually, with a notable trend towards younger affected individuals. Recent discoveries concerning the "gut-brain axis" have established a connection between the gut and the brain. Numerous studies have revealed that intestinal microbes play a crucial role in the onset, progression, and outcomes of IS. They are involved in the entire pathophysiological process of IS through mechanisms such

A systematic review and meta-analysis of the serological diagnosis of Toxoplasma gondii infection highlight the lack of a One Health integrative research.

Toxoplasma gondii is a globally distributed food-borne zoonotic parasite with numerous infection sources. The control of this zoonosis requires a One Health response that partially depends on serological monitoring in humans and animals. Herein, a systematic review and a meta-analysis were performed to analyse and compare the transdisciplinary and integrative research under the One Health approach. We searched for articles published between January 1st 2014 and September 5th 2022, focused on the development and evaluation of serological techniques for the diagnosis of T. gondii infection in hu

Perceptions of health professionals in providing care for people with anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa: a systematic review and meta-synthesis of qualitative studies.

This study sought to synthesize and reinterpret findings from primary qualitative studies on the experience of health professionals in caring for people with anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa. We conducted a systematic review of the literature with the SPIDER search strategy assessing six databases. A meta-synthesis was performed with data from qualitative studies. Two independent reviewers screened and assessed the articles, extracted data from the articles and elaborated thematic synthesis. Nineteen articles met the inclusion/exclusion criteria. The meta-synthesis revealed three descripti

First Case of Primary Sellar/Suprasellar-Intraventricular Ewing Sarcoma: Case Report and Review of the Literature.

BACKGROUND: Intracranial Ewing sarcoma (ES) and peripheral primitive neuroectodermal tumors (pPNETs) are extremely rare and poorly differentiated neoplasms. Immunohistochemical and cytogenetic findings support the possibility of a unique nosologic entity. Primary intracranial localization of this tumor is extremely rare; a few cases are reported in the literature, with only some confirmed by genetic studies. CASE DESCRIPTION: We report a 12-year-old patient with a sellar/suprasellar mass with intraventricular extension that in all its features mimicked a transinfundibular craniopharyngioma. T

Voices from the past: Mental and physical outcomes described by American Civil War amputees.

Studies of trauma commonly concentrate on the psychological and physiological effects of recent violent events. Although today connections are becoming more explicitly drawn, early studies of the aftermath of amputation serve to shed light on modern understanding of the interaction of the physical and emotional. The study of combat amputation, dissociation, and related posttraumatic stress largely began with the work of 19th-century Philadelphia physician Silas Weir Mitchell, who brought attention to the phenomenon of phantom limb pain. Less known, however, are the data he and his son, John K.

Teaching for the future: a weekly, cross-site, multidisciplinary, hybrid burns teaching programme.

INTRODUCTION: Education of the multidisciplinary burns team is essential for optimising patient outcomes but can be challenging, particularly when coordinating across multiple sites and ensuring consistent engagement. There is a recognised gap in providing comprehensive, interdisciplinary education that covers all aspects of burn care. Hybrid teaching models, combining face-to-face and online delivery, offer a practical solution to address these challenges while promoting collaboration and engagement across the team. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of a structured, cross-site hybrid te

Relevance and Feasibility of a "Geriatric Delirium Pass" for Older Patients with Elective Surgeries: Findings from a Multi-Methods Study.

Background/Objectives: Postoperative Delirium (POD) is a frequent complication in older patients undergoing elective surgery. Although multicomponent interventions are effective, deficits in interdisciplinary communication and intersectoral collaboration persist. This study developed and evaluated the "Geriatric Delirium Pass (GeDePa)", a paper-based tool to systematically document risk factors for POD across care settings. Methods: A multi-method design was applied, comprising (i) a structured literature review, (ii) semi-structured expert interviews, and (iii) a standardized online survey ut

Who Holds the Plate? Psychotherapists' Perspectives on Dietary Behavior, Transdiagnostic Evaluation and Interdisciplinary Collaboration in Eating Disorders.

Background/Objectives: Dietary behavior in eating disorders (EDs) is often framed through either nutritional or psychological perspectives, yet emerging evidence suggests that eating may involve a transdiagnostic, emotionally embedded, and relationally negotiated process. While research highlights the role of emotion regulation difficulties, perfectionism, control, and overvaluation of weight and shape in ED maintenance, less is known about how these processes are interpreted and managed in clinical practice across different cultural contexts. This study explored psychotherapists' perspectives

Making Palliative Care Work in Chronic Respiratory Diseases: A Nurse-Led Model.

Palliative care (PC) is defined as a holistic, multidisciplinary, person-centered approach aimed at relieving symptoms and improving quality of life (QoL) for individuals with serious health-related disease. Although recommended by major respiratory societies, patients with advanced chronic respiratory diseases (CRD) continue to have insufficient access to PC, often limited to end-of-life (EoL) care. Compared with patients with lung cancer, patients with CRD experience greater symptom burden, are less informed about their illness, and are less involved in decision-making. Early PC has been sho
