INTRODUCTION: A transorally inserted anvil has been developed to facilitate the creation of a stapled anastomosis without the need for a purse string to secure the anvil into place during laparoscopic total gastrectomy (LTG). We describe a hemi-double stapling technique and application of a transorally inserted anvil for esophagojejunostomy during LTG, and we report the results of a retrospective study in which we examined the feasibility and safety of this method. We describe a novel technique for laparoscopic hepatic ductoplasty and hepaticojejunostomy in choledochal cyst with a narrow common hepatic duct. After complete cyst excision, a longitudinal incision was made in the anterior wall of the narrow common hepatic duct to enlarge the anastomotic opening. Ileal knotting is a rare but serious complication of pregnancy, with relatively high maternal and fetal mortality. We report a case of ileal knotting with complications in a pregnant woman without any history of abdominal or pelvic surgery. To our knowledge, there is no other report in the international literature. Thus, the possibility of ileal knotting should be borne in mind when investigating epigastric pain in a pregnant woman without any history of abdominal or pelvic surgery, even after the onset of labor pains. Delayed surgical intervention can result in maternal and fetal mortality.

BACKGROUND: Patients with progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis (PFIC) often require liver transplantation to survive. An alternative approach is surgical diversion of bile, that is, partial external biliary diversion (PEBD). The aim of the study was to describe 13 patients with PFIC who have undergone PEBD.
METHODS: Clinical and laboratory workups including growth data and histology specimens were analyzed to evaluate the short-term effects of PEBD. Follow-up, including liver biopsies, was performed 11 to 21 (median, 14) months post-PEBD.
