OBJECTIVE: To report on the management of laryngoceles by CO2 laser-assisted endoscopic excision.
STUDY DESIGN: A 15-year retrospective study of 12 adult patients (7 men and 5 women) who presented with a laryngocele. Nine patients had an internal laryngocele, one patient had an external laryngocele, and two patients had combined internal-external components. Two laryngoceles were right-sided, six were left-sided, and four were bilateral.

Laser bronchoscopy is a major procedure employed in intervention bronchoscopy. From August 1998 to August 2000, 20 patients with endobronchial lesions were treated by this procedure in the Respiratory and Tuberculosis Division of the Department of Internal Medicine, Siriraj Hospital. Of 16 malignant lesion, a good response was obtained in 78 per cent (7 out of 9) of lesions in the proximal right main bronchus with failure to open any of the 3 completely obstructed lesions at the left distal bronchus. The objective of this paper was to evaluate effect of laser's biostimulation on the process of healing of crural ulcerations. Three comparative groups of patients, A, B and C, were made at random from the patients with venous crural ulcerations. The group A consisted of 17, the group B 15, the group C 17 patients. Laser has been used for 21 years in otology. This technique was introduced to decrease the number of complications after micromanipulations within the middle ear. Continuous-wave laser and pulsed laser have clinical application. In the ENT Dept. in Poznań pulsed Er-Yag laser (Zeiss Corp.) is used in the treatment of otosclerosis. First experiences and results of treatment of 35 patients using this method were presented. In all patients recovery of hearing was observed. No damage of the inner ear (deafness or hypoacusis) was found.

PURPOSE: Selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) is a new technique aimed to developed to impact pigmented trabecular cells selectively. Compared with ordinary argon laser trabeculoplasty, it is expected to have fewer complications with more efficacy for open-angle glaucoma. In this study we performed SLT on 17 eyes of 10 patients with primary open-angle glaucoma and 1 eye with capsular glaucoma.
METHODS: Follow-up period was up to 10 months. Average energy irrachieted was 28.14 mJ (0.47 mJ x 59 spots) against pigmented trabecular band over the half circumference of anterior chamber angle.

AIM OF THE STUDY: To assess the validity of transcanalicular diode laser assisted dacryocystorhinostomy (TLADCR) in the treatment of distal obstruction of the lachrymal pathways.
MATERIAL AND METHOD: Between June 1999 and February 2000, 29 TLADCR were performed in the ENT department on 26 patients. Surgical indications included chronic dacryocystitis in 19 cases and dacryostenosis in 10 cases. In all cases but one, the surgery was carried out under a standard general anesthetic. OBJECTIVES: Argon laser stapedotomy is a new modality for the treatment of otosclerosis. The first results obtained in Denmark are reported.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective follow-up study was undertaken to evaluate the results of argon laser stapedotomy which was introduced in 1991 at the department of Otolaryngology, Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen. Sialolithiasis of the submaxillary gland is rare in the pediatric population. We report the case of a 13-year-old boy who presented submandibular tumefaction of 7 months evolution, which increased after meals. Localized lithiasis in Wharton s duct was observed in submaxillary sialolithiasis. Treatment was intraoral extraction with CO(2) laser and after recovering from the anesthetic, the patient was discharged.This technique shortens surgical time, facilitates hemostasia and reduces edema and postoperative pain. The procedure is suitable for ambulatory surgery.

A total of 236 patients presenting various pathological conditions are operated in the Department of General and Operative Surgery of the Medical University--Sofia over the period 1993 through 1998, using laser radiation--CO2-laser in 216 cases, ans Nd-YAG laser--in 20 cases. Both focused and unfocussed laser beam is applied. The superiorities of laser surgery in definite diseases and the results thus far obtained are analyzed.

Recent reports of retinal pathology associated with laser refractive surgery are documented. The overall risk of retinal disease following photorefractive keratectomy or laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis is discussed, and the potential causal associations between anterior segment laser and posterior segment pathology are assessed.

Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP) has been acknowledged as the surgical treatment of choice for snoring.
