Suicide risk characteristics of vocational college students: A latent profile analysis.

BACKGROUND: Guided by the stress-diathesis model, this study employed latent profile analysis to investigate heterogeneity in suicide risk profiles and inform targeted intervention strategies among college vocational students. METHODS: Data were collected from 1,620 vocational college students identified as high-risk for suicide. Validated instruments-including the Adolescent Life Events Scale (ASLEC), Symptom Checklist-90 (SCL-90), and Social Support Rating Scale (SSRS)-were used to assess stress factors (negative life events), symptom factors (depression, anxiety, psychosomatic symptoms), d

Molecular biology and pathogenicity of mycoplasmas.

The recent sequencing of the entire genomes of Mycoplasma genitalium and M. pneumoniae has attracted considerable attention to the molecular biology of mycoplasmas, the smallest self-replicating organisms. It appears that we are now much closer to the goal of defining, in molecular terms, the entire machinery of a self-replicating cell. Comparative genomics based on comparison of the genomic makeup of mycoplasmal genomes with those of other bacteria, has opened new ways of looking at the evolutionary history of the mycoplasmas. There is now solid genetic support for the hypothesis that mycopla

A structured communication model for advance care planning in Chinese oncology nursing: a mixed-methods participatory action research study.

BACKGROUND: Despite the global recognition of advance care planning as a critical component of patient-centred end-of-life care, its implementation remains challenged by skill-based deficiencies (e.g., inadequate training), cultural and communication barriers, and system-level structural impediments within healthcare settings. This study aimed to develop and implement a structured advance care planning communication model to improve nurses' communication practices and facilitate patient engagement in end-of-life care discussions. METHODS: A participatory action research design with embedded m

Hidden work and blurred boundaries: a qualitative study of how community nurses navigate and adapt injectable medication processes to provide timely end-of-life symptom control.

BACKGROUND: With rising numbers of people dying at home, often with complex multimorbidity, community healthcare professionals are increasingly responsible for providing end-of-life care. This care is usually led by community nurses, many of whom do not have specialist palliative care training. A core part of their role is providing end-of-life symptom control using injectable medications prescribed ahead of need and stored in patients' homes. However, cross-organisational systems around injectable medication processes are complex and time consuming. We aimed to explore community nurses' perce

Advancing Theory Underlying Diversity-Disease Relationships: Competence in the Context of Life History, Demography, and Disease.

Biodiversity loss can increase parasite transmission via the dilution effect when two criteria are met. First, if communities consist of hosts that span a gradient of competence, from highly competent species that amplify transmission to low-competence species that decrease transmission. Second, if biodiversity loss is non-random, such that low-diversity communities possess a disproportionately high number of highly competent hosts. Infection is then predicted to spread more efficiently in low-diversity (high competence) communities. These criteria offer a compelling direct connection between

The Stockholm spinal cord injury study: 1. Medical problems in a regional SCI population.

Out of a regional traumatic spinal cord injury population consisting of 379 individuals, 353 (93.1%) participated in the present study. Subjects were individually interviewed using semi-structured protocols. In addition, previous medical records were available for over 96% of subjects, and were used in all these cases to minimise recall bias. Cause of injury, prevalence of present medical symptoms and occurrence of medical complications in the post-acute, post-discharge phase were recorded. Neurological classification was verified by physical examination according to ASIA/IMSOP standards. Many

Musicality is Preserved in Neurodegeneration.

Certain musical abilities can endure even as language, memory, and behavior decline in dementia, yet the neural basis of this resilience remains poorly understood. We draw on behavioral and neuroimaging evidence to explain why musicality is selectively preserved or impacted across Alzheimer's disease (AD) and the frontotemporal dementias (FTDs). Adopting a network-based perspective, we describe how musicality arises from interactions across large-scale brain systems that support perception, emotion, and memory. Evidence from case studies and neuroimaging work suggests that music engages lower-

Accessibility of day-night emergency alert systems for Deaf and hard-of-hearing adults during armed conflict.

BACKGROUND: People with disabilities, including Deaf and hard-of-hearing (DHH) individuals, face disproportionate disaster risks due to communication barriers. Emergency alert systems are predominantly auditory-based, limiting their effectiveness for DHH populations. This gap is especially critical during armed conflict, where timely alerts can be life-saving. OBJECTIVE: This study examined emergency alert system accessibility and associated psychological distress among DHH adults during active armed conflict. METHODS: A cross-sectional online survey was conducted in Israel (October-November

Navigating fetal conditions through a Reproductive Justice lens: lessons from composite cases in the United States.

BACKGROUND: Every day, pregnant people get the news that the futures they imagined for their families are at risk due to a fetal condition. It may be something relatively minor, like a small benign growth on a lung, or something major, like a life-threatening heart or developmental problem. These fetal conditions sit at the intersection of maternity care, high-risk pregnancy services, fetal therapy, family planning, pediatric specialty care, community supports, insurance structures, and policy environments. Despite the profound inequities embedded in these systems, Reproductive Justice has rar

Online peer support in rheumatology: a mixed methods exploration of patient and clinician views and experiences.

OBJECTIVES: Online peer support groups (OSGs) are increasingly used by patients with rheumatic diseases, yet their benefits, risks, and impact on the clinician-patient relationship are not well characterised. We examined how patients and clinicians perceive and experience OSGs. METHODS: Mixed methods combining online surveys and interviews with rheumatology patients and clinicians. Measures of satisfaction with life and care were compared by t-tests between OSG members and non-members. Free-text and interview data underwent thematic analysis. RESULTS: Three themes were identified from survey

The Global Initiative for Obstructive Sleep Apnea (GIFOSA): Rationale, Strategic Framework, and Call to Action.

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is one of the most prevalent chronic sleep disorders worldwide, affecting an estimated nearly one billion adults globally, and is increasingly recognized as a major contributor to cardiometabolic disease, impaired quality of life, and escalating healthcare costs. Despite substantial advances in understanding OSA pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment, significant disparities persist in access to care, implementation of evidence-based practice, and long-term outcomes across regions and healthcare systems. The impact of economic crisis on the mental health of children and adolescents: A systematic review.

INTRODUCTION: Economic crises significantly affect mental health across individuals, families, and communities, with children and adolescents being especially vulnerable. Financial stress, parental distress, and family conflict can disrupt development and increase emotional, behavioural, and cognitive difficulties. This review uses Bronfenbrenner's ecological systems theory to examine how economic hardship influences youth mental health through interconnected individual, familial, and societal systems. METHODS: Following PRISMA guidelines, a systematic search was conducted on PubMed and Googl

Sleep chart of biological aging clocks across organs and omics.

Optimal sleep plays a vital role in promoting healthy aging and enhancing longevity. This study proposes a Sleep Chart to assess the relationship between sleep duration and 23 biological aging clocks across 17 organ systems or tissues and 3 omics data types (imaging, proteomics, and metabolomics). First, a systemic, U-shaped pattern shows that both short (<6 hours) and long (>8 hours) sleep duration are linked to elevated biological age gaps (BAGs) across 9 brain and body systems and 3 omics types, with optimal sleep time varying by organ and sex ([6.4-7.8] hours). Furthermore, short and long

Loneliness among older adults in Europe: time to integrate health and social care.

Loneliness is a major concern for public health in contemporary societies. Older adults are particularly vulnerable to loneliness because of their reduced social connections following life changes, such as retirement. Loneliness is often investigated and discussed together with social isolation. While social isolation implies an actual lack of social connections, loneliness implies a perceived deficit of social relations regardless of the real amount of social contacts. However, since living alone may lead to loneliness, individuals can experience both loneliness and social isolation together.

How does the environmental inadequacy mediate the effect of functional limitations on participation restrictions in young adults with cerebral palsy?

BACKGROUND: Adults with cerebral palsy (CP) face various functional limitations and comorbidities, that prevent them from participating fully in social life. Disability models suggest that an environment not tailored to their needs could partly explain the link between functional limitations and participation restrictions. However, there is still insufficient knowledge about how the environment hinders participation. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the mediating role of environmental inadequacy in the relationship between functional limitations and participation restrictions in young adults with CP
