[Studies on the evaluation of exposure to industrial chemicals].

Among the biological exposure indices of lead, lead in plasma was the most direct indicator of current exposure. Lead mobilized into plasma as well as in urine could be used as an indicator of the internal dose of lead. The ratio of non-treated to restored activity of delta-aminolevulinic acid dehydratase (ALA-D) was a more specific index than ALA-D activity itself at low levels of lead exposure, excluding the familial or genetic variation in the activity. The methods using HPLC for determining heme intermediate improved the evaluation of the lead effect: delta-aminolevulinic acid in plasma, b

Deep3DCCS: Geometry-Driven Collision Cross Section Prediction from Multi-View Molecular Projection Tensors.

Collision cross section (CCS) measurements from ion mobility-mass spectrometry improve confidence in molecular identification in metabolomics and lipidomics and reduce false-positive annotations in untargeted analyses. However, experimental CCS coverage remains incomplete, and accurate computational prediction remains needed. Here, we present Deep3DCCS, a geometry-driven deep learning framework that predicts CCS from stacked multi-angle molecular projection tensors using a three-dimensional convolutional neural network operating across the projection-view and two spatial image dimensions. Digital Technologies in Cardiac Rehabilitation for High-Risk Cardiovascular Patients: A Narrative Review of Mobile Health, Virtual Reality, Exergaming and Virtual Education.

Background: Cardiac rehabilitation (CR) is a key component of secondary prevention after acute coronary events, coronary and valve interventions, and device implantation, yet participation and long-term adherence remain suboptimal. Digital technologies offer the potential to extend CR beyond the centre-based model and to support more flexible, patient-centred care. Methods: This narrative "review on a systematic backbone" synthesizes original clinical studies published between 2005 and 2025 that evaluated the use of digital technologies as an integral part of CR in adults after myocardial infa

N-Myristoyltransferase 2 Is Regulated by Polyphosphate-Driven Lysine Interactions.

Inorganic polyphosphate (polyP) is a ubiquitous polymer increasingly recognized as a regulator of protein function through lysine polyphosphate modification (KPM), a reversible interaction with lysine-rich protein regions. Although numerous KPM targets have been identified, the functional consequences of polyP binding remain poorly understood. N-myristoyltransferase 2 (NMT2), an essential enzyme that catalyzes protein N-myristoylation and regulates membrane-associated signaling pathways, was previously identified as a candidate KPM target. Here, we investigated the molecular and functional rel

Mechanism of Malondialdehyde-Induced Deterioration in Water-Holding Capacity of Bovine Myofibrillar Proteins: Insights from Structural Modifications and Molecular Docking.

Lipid peroxidation products can induce oxidative modification of myofibrillar proteins (MPs), thereby compromising their water-holding capacity (WHC), but the underlying molecular mechanism remains unclear. This study systematically investigated the mechanism of MDA-induced WHC deterioration in bovine myofibrillar proteins (MPs) using multispectral techniques, redox proteomics, and molecular docking. Results demonstrated that low MDA concentrations caused relatively limited water release. Structural alterations became evident at 2 mM, whereas pronounced WHC deterioration occurred at 5-10 mM. A

Osteoarthritis as a systemic disorder: multi-organ crosstalk in pathogenesis and therapeutic targeting.

While osteoarthritis (OA) has long been viewed primarily as a localized, mechanically-driven joint disorder, emerging evidence suggests that systemic factors may play a significant modulating role in its pathogenesis. This review presents the "Gut-Brain-Liver-Kidney axis" as a potential regulatory framework to explore a conceptual shift towards a systemic perspective on this traditionally localized disease. Available evidence is synthesized to clarify how gut microbiota dysbiosis and its metabolites contribute to systemic inflammation and disrupt joint homeostasis through specific pathways, su

Layered double hydroxide nanoplatform synergizes with sonodynamic therapy to induce dual activation of cuproptosis and ferroptosis for breast cancer treatment.

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is a highly aggressive subtype with limited therapeutic options and poor prognosis, creating an urgent demand for novel strategies. Sonodynamic therapy (SDT) is a promising non-invasive approach, yet its clinical translation is restricted by low efficacy of traditional sonosensitizers and single-modal limitations. In this study, we constructed a zinc‑copper‑iron-based layered double hydroxide (ZnCuFe@LDHs) nanoplatform integrating SDT with synergistic ferroptosis and cuproptosis for targeted TNBC treatment. In vitro experiments with 4 T1 cells demonstrated

Cholesterol and Q147E Deamidation Modulates αA-Crystallin Membrane Binding Elucidating Protective Role of Lens Membrane Composition Changes With Aging.

PURPOSE: The αA-Crystallin (αAc) binding with lens membranes increases with age and cataract formation. However, the role of lipids and cholesterol (Chol) in Q147E-αAc membrane binding remains unclear, which we aim to elucidate in this study. METHODS: We have used the electron paramagnetic resonance spin-labeling method to probe the Chol/ 1-palmitoyl-2-oleoylphosphatidylcholine (POPC) and Chol/ sphingomyelin (SM) membranes binding with wild-type (WT) and Q147E-αAc. RESULTS: Compared to WT-αAc, the Q147E mutant had increased binding to POPC and decreased binding to SM membranes without Chol.

In vitro evaluation of anthelmintic activity of biocompatibile carbon quantum dot nanocomposite against egg and larval stages of equine strongyles.

BACKGROUND: Strongyle nematodes pose a major challenge in veterinary parasitology, causing significant economic losses in livestock due to resistance to conventional treatments. Current anthelmintics, like Ivermectin, often encounter resistance issues. This study aims to address these gaps by synthesizing Carbon Quantum Dots (CQDs) and Copper-Doped CQDs (Cu@CQDs) using glucose extract, and evaluating their nematicidal properties against strongyles in vitro. We assessed the nematicidal effects of CQDs and Cu@CQDs through larval feeding inhibition of first-stage larvae (L1), egg hatch inhibition

Treatment of Acute Liver Injury through Selective Tropism of High Mobility Group Box 1 Gene-Silenced Large Peritoneal Macrophages.

Tissue-resident macrophages (TRMs) are attractive cells to therapeutically deliver oligonucleotide and other gene-expression modifying modalities to treat a wide array of diseases ranging from inflammatory to autoimmune, and even cancer. Here, we focus on TRMs located inside the peritoneal cavity lining the abdomen that selectively express a transcription factor GATA6 called large peritoneal macrophages (GLPMs) and successfully demonstrate functional GLPM-selective delivery of a Cy5-fluorophore-labeled siRNA encapsulated in C12-200 cationic-lipidoid-based nanoparticles (siRNA-Cy5 (C12-200)). Modulation of Cardiac Gene Expression by anti-HMGB1 in a Model of Experimental Myocardial Infarction.

Myocardial infarction (MI) remains a major cause of morbidity and mortality. The ischemic myocardium undergoes necrosis and apoptosis, triggering inflammation and oxidative stress that drive fibrosis and heart failure. High-mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) protein acts as a key damage-associated molecular pattern, activating TLR4 and NFkappaB signaling to promote cytokine release and exacerbate injury. The present study investigated the role of HMGB1 in MI and its impact on inflammatory and redox-related pathways, focusing on the effects of HMGB1 blockade. Male WKY rats were divided into the follo

Ultrasound-activated miR-195-5p/shikonin nanobubbles remodel immunosuppressive microenvironment via immunogenic cell death to potentiate PD-1/PD-L1 blockade in hepatocellular carcinoma.

Despite the transformative clinical impact of programmed cell death ligand 1/programmed death 1 (PD-1/PD-L1) blockade in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), therapeutic efficacy remains limited by the tumor immunosuppressive microenvironment (TIME), with objective response rates persistently below 20 %. To address this critical clinical challenge, we engineered ultrasound (US)-responsive lipid nanobubbles (NBs) co-encapsulating microRNA (miR)-195-5p and shikonin (SK) (designated miR-195-5p/SK-NBs), a dual-functional platform designed to synergize PD-L1 suppression with immunogenic cell death (ICD)

Distinctive gut antibiotic resistome, potential health risks and underlying pathways upon cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury.

Antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) as emerging pollutants pose health risks to humans and the environment. Gut microbiota is an important reservoir for ARGs and hotspot for ARG acquisition and dissemination. Non-antibiotic factors (such as disease pathophysiology) affect ARG emergence and dissemination. Cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury (I/R) commonly occurs in stroke patients. However, effects of I/R on ARG emergence and dissemination are unknown. Therefore, metagenomics was used to unveil selective collection of gut antibiotic resistome and its health risks, key ARG hosts and underlying p

Oxidative response of rice (Oryza sativa L.) seedlings to quinolone antibiotics and its correlation with phyllosphere microbes and antibiotic resistance genes.

With the increasing use of veterinary antibiotics, quinolone antibiotics may enter farmland systems after livestock manure has been composted. However, the phytotoxicity mechanism of antibiotics in crops is still unclear. In this study, the oxidative responses of rice (Oryza sativa L.) seedlings to three typical quinolone antibiotics and their underlying mechanisms were investigated. The bioconcentration factor values were 1.47, 0.55, and 0.23 in the levofloxacin, enrofloxacin and norfloxacin treatment, respectively. The inhibitory effects on rice seedlings were in the order of levofloxacin >

The experience of living with Niemann-Pick type C: a patient and caregiver perspective.

BACKGROUND: Niemann-Pick disease type C (NPC) is a rare inherited lysosomal storage disease typified by accumulation of cholesterol and other lipids in late endosomes/lysosomes, thereby resulting in a spectrum of neurological, psychiatric, and systemic symptoms (notably liver disease). Though it is well-known that NPC exacts a physical and emotional toll on both patients and caregivers, the burden of NPC can vary between patients, while the challenges of living with NPC can evolve over time (i.e., from time of diagnosis to the present day). To further grasp patient and caregiver perceptions an

Serum Protein Biomarkers of Inflammation, Oxidative Stress, and Cerebrovascular and Glial Injury in Concussed Australian Football Players.

Clinical decisions related to sports-related concussion (SRC) are challenging, because of the heterogenous nature of SRC symptoms coupled with the current reliance on subjective self-reported symptom measures. Sensitive and objective methods that can diagnose SRC and determine recovery would aid clinical management, and there is evidence that SRC induces changes in circulating protein biomarkers, indicative of neuroaxonal injury. However, potential blood biomarkers related to other pathobiological responses linked to SRC are still poorly understood. Therefore, here we analyzed blood samples fr
