The goal of mediastinal sampling or a radical lymph node resection after lung cancer resection is to correctly stage the illness to enable a more accurate assessment of prognosis. Metastasis to mediastinal nodes may be encountered even in small peripheral T1 tumours. The identification of increasingly powerful prognostic factors has led to sequential modifications of the cutaneous melanoma staging system. The American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) recently proposed major revision of tumor node metastasis (TNM) categories and stage groupings for melanoma. The authors summarize the main characteristics of this new TNM classification of malignant melanoma. The importance of the novel technique - sentinel node biopsy - in the management of malignant melanoma is discussed.

The noninvasive preoperative assessment of lung cancer is currently based on CT scan. OBJECTIVE: To study the metastatic pattern of thoracic lymph node in resectable lung cancer.
METHODS: From January 1992 to July 1998, the lymph nodes in hilar(N1) and mediastinal(N2) were resected based on their distribution in 160 patiens with resectable lung cancer and were examined by pathology. Number, size and colour of lymph nodes in each regions were recorded. Each lymph node was examined by routine pathology and immunohistochemistry. Quantity of metastatic lymph node was reported according to their regions.

Dermatofibrosarcoma Protuberans (DFSP) is an uncommon cutaneous soft tissue tumor. It is locally invasive and is known to recur. Metastases are rare and occur most commonly to the lungs.
