Generalization to unseen environments remains a fundamental challenge in Vision-Language Navigation. To tackle this issue, we propose a novel framework that leverages world knowledge embedded within Multimodal Large Language Models. We introduce Collaborative Agents in Visual-Language Navigation (CA-VLN), a framework based on a dual-agent architecture. This architecture comprises a Knowledge Agent, which infuses the action prediction process with semantic context and commonsense reasoning, and a Hierarchical History Agent, which constructs a detailed episodic memory to enable long-horizon plan

Emerging evidence challenges the direct causal relationship between amyloid-β (Aβ) deposition and cognitive decline in Alzheimer's disease (AD), as exemplified in presenilin-1 and presenilin-2 conditional double knockout (cDKO) mice which exhibit no amyloid plaques and reduced soluble Aβ1-42 monomers, but paradoxically display AD-like memory deficits. In this study, we hypothesize that reduced soluble Aβ1-42 monomers critically underlie memory dysfunction in cDKO mice. Combining behavioral assessments and in vivo multichannel electrophysiology, we show that cDKO mice exhibit impaired spatial a

Stress induces retrograde amnesia in humans and rodents. Muscarinic antagonism under normal physiological conditions causes gender dependent impairment in episodic memory retrieval. We aimed to explore the gender dependent role of muscarinic receptors in memory retrieval under sub-chronic stress condition. Male and female mice were trained for Morris water maze test and contextual fear conditioning, followed by 3 h restraint stress per day for five days. Stress was either given alone or in combination with a daily subcutaneous injection of scopolamine (1 mg/kg) or donepezil (1 mg/kg). Control

Adults with unipolar depression typically show poor episodic memory for positive material, but the neuroscientific mechanisms responsible for this deficit have not been characterized. I suggest a simple hypothesis: weak memory for positive material in depression reflects disrupted communication between the mesolimbic dopamine pathway and medial temporal lobe (MTL) memory systems during encoding. This proposal draws on basic research showing that dopamine release in the hippocampus is critical for the transition from early- to late-phase long-term potentiation (LTP) that marks the conversion of

The apolipoprotein E (APOE) ɛ4 allele and high levels of beta-amyloid (Aβ) are associated with episodic memory decline and risk for Alzheimer's disease. However, there is debate about independent or interactive effects of ɛ4 on Aβ-related memory decline in healthy older adults. Healthy older adults with high Aβ burden (n = 84) enrolled in Australian Imaging, Biomarkers, and Lifestyle Study were included in this study. Cognition was measured using the computerized Cogstate Brief Battery at baseline, 18-, 36-, and 54-month follow-ups. Mini Mental State Examination and Clinical Dementia Rating sc

Schema memory refers to generalized knowledge that is formed across multiple episodes containing regularities. Schema memory is thought to be formed in an active systems consolidation process that transforms individual episodic representations into neocortically anchored schema representations and that is facilitated by sleep. Here we show in rats that sleep is indeed critical for the emergence of a new schema memory. Male rats (n = 20) were trained on an elaborated version of the object-place recognition task, which allowed for abstraction of a spatial rule across eight encoding episodes spac

BACKGROUND: Extensive empirical evidence has established that children with learning difficulties (LDs) experience pronounced deficits in prospective memory (PM) - the cognitive ability to encode, maintain, and successfully execute delayed intentions. However, the specific mechanisms underlying these PM impairments remain underexplored, while extant intervention studies demonstrate marked heterogeneity in treatment outcomes. The present study sought to bridge these critical gaps by expanding the empirical foundation regarding PM dysfunction in children with LDs and exploring the improvement pa

The subjective sense of recollecting events from one's past is an essential feature of episodic memory, but the neural mechanisms supporting this capacity are poorly understood. We examined the role of large-scale patterns of neural synchrony using whole-head MEG recordings in healthy adults and S.M., who has severely deficient autobiographical memory (SDAM; Palombo et al., 2015), a syndrome in which autobiographical recollection is absent but other functions (including other mnemonic functions), are normal. MEG was conducted while participants listened to prospectively collected recordings do

BACKGROUND: Prospective memory (PM) refers to a future-oriented form of memory in which the individual must remember to execute an intended action either at a future point in time (Time-based) or in response to a specific event (Event-based). Lapses in PM are commonly exhibited in neurodegenerative disorders including Alzheimer's disease (AD) and frontotemporal dementia (FTD), however, the neurocognitive mechanisms driving these deficits remain unknown.
OBJECTIVE: To investigate the clinical and neural correlates of Time- and Event-based PM disruption in AD and the behavioral-variant FTD (bvF

Our understanding of the inferior parietal lobe (IPL) remains challenged by inconsistencies between neuroimaging and neuropsychological perspectives. To date, others assume that hemispheric specialisation of the IPL is linked with the type of processing; attention processing in the right hemisphere; memory retrieval and semantic judgement in the left hemisphere. Here, we provide compelling evidence associating the type of information being processed with the recruitment of each hemisphere's IPL. In a meta-analysis, we classify 121 previous fMRI reports of IPL activity arising from episodic mem

This study investigated the neuropsychological hallmarks of posterior cortical atrophy (PCA). Seventeen patients with PCA, 17 patients with probable Alzheimer's disease (PAD), and 17 healthy age-matched subjects underwent neuropsychological testing for abstract reasoning, visuospatial abilities, memory, language, executive functions, praxes, and attention. The PCA patients were significantly more impaired in visual perception, spatial memory, visual attention, and visuospatial reasoning compared to the PAD patients who were relatively more impaired in episodic memory. In the PCA group, no test

We describe a form of amnesia, which we have called visual memory-deficit amnesia, that is caused by damage to areas of the visual system that store visual information. Because it is caused by a deficit in access to stored visual material and not by an impaired ability to encode or retrieve new material, it has the otherwise infrequent properties of a more severe retrograde than anterograde amnesia with no temporal gradient in the retrograde amnesia. Of the 11 cases of long-term visual memory loss found in the literature, all had amnesia extending beyond a loss of visual memory, often includin

Recent evidence suggests that our capacities to remember the past and to imagine what might happen in the future largely depend on the same core brain network that includes the middle temporal lobe, the posterior cingulate/retrosplenial cortex, the inferior parietal lobe, the medial prefrontal cortex, and the lateral temporal cortex. However, the extent to which regions of this core brain network are also responsible for our capacity to think about what could have happened in our past, yet did not occur (i.e., episodic counterfactual thinking), is still unknown. The present study examined this

OBJECTIVE: Mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) frequently co-occur and are associated with neurocognitive intra-individual variability (IIV) and difficulty with prospective memory (PM). The current study aimed to examine associations between IIV and PM in this comorbid group.
METHOD: Fifty veterans with a history of blast mTBI and current comorbid PTSD completed a standardized neurocognitive battery to measure IIV, and the Memory for Intentions Screening Test measuring PM.
RESULTS: Adjusting for age, education, and race, higher IIV was associated with

BACKGROUND: Prospective memory is a critical neurocognitive capacity that refers to the ability to execute delayed intentions. To date, few studies have investigated the effects of acute alcohol consumption on prospective memory, and important questions remain about the mechanisms that might underpin acute alcohol-induced prospective memory impairment.
AIMS: The current study sought to clarify the nature and magnitude of prospective memory difficulties following acute alcohol consumption and to test the degree to which any problems with prospective remembering might be a secondary consequence

OBJECTIVE: Cognitive problems, especially disturbances in episodic memory, and hippocampal sclerosis are common in temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE), but little is known about the relationship of hippocampal morphology with memory. We aimed to relate hippocampal surface-shape patterns to verbal and visual learning.
METHODS: We analyzed hippocampal surface shapes on high-resolution magnetic resonance images and the Adult Memory and Information Processing Battery in 145 unilateral refractory TLE patients undergoing epilepsy surgery, a validation set of 55 unilateral refractory TLE patients, and 39 a

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) has been linked to memory deficits, with no established neural mechanisms. We collected resting-state brain functional magnetic resonance imaging and standardized verbal recall tests from 42 older adults with AMD and 41 age-matched controls. We used seed-based whole brain analysis to quantify the strength of functional connectivity between hubs of the default mode network and a network of medial temporal regions relevant for memory. Our results indicated neither memory performance nor network connectivity differed by AMD status. However, the AMD participa

OBJECTIVE: Prospective memory (PM) has emerged as a form of episodic memory that is frequently impaired in a variety of clinical populations. Neuropsychologists who routinely evaluate these populations are often unaware of the possibility of PM deficits or the impact these deficits may have on everyday functioning. The objective of this special issue is to provide an overview of the nature of prospective deficits in a range of clinical populations, to discuss neuropsychological assessment techniques, and to critically evaluate management strategies.
METHOD: We solicited papers from establishe

The hippocampus contributes to episodic, spatial and semantic aspects of memory, yet individual differences within and between these functions are not well-understood. In 136 healthy individuals, we investigated whether these differences reflect variation in the strength of connections between functionally-specialised segments of the hippocampus and diverse cortical regions that participate in different aspects of memory. Better topographical memory was associated with stronger connectivity between lingual gyrus and left anterior, rather than posterior, hippocampus. Better semantic memory was

INTRODUCTION AND AIM: The quantitative and qualitative analysis of the semantic verbal fluency task has revealed that people with dementia produced fewer words and smaller semantic clustering than people without dementia. However, in people with amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI), research has shown conflicting results regarding the amount and number of semantic clusters that are made. The aim of this study was to provide new data to this controversial issue.
SUBJECTS AND METHODS: Twenty-two older adults diagnosed with aMCI (8 men and 14 women) and 43 older adults (7 men and 36 women)
