OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of the extract from Marsdensia tenacissima on proliferation and apoptosis of human hematologic neoplasm cell line cells.

Cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) are a critical component of the immune response to tumors. Malignant tumors are prevalent with high mortality rates in humans, dogs, and cats. Some microorganisms have been shown to inhibit cancer progression. Targeted therapy and immunotherapy have revolutionized the treatment of metastatic skin melanoma but around half of all patients develop resistance early or late during treatment. We developed a reliable system for the irradiation of xenografted tumors in mice which allows for accurate local irradiation under specific pathogen-free conditions. The system presented here consists of acrylic supports for mice and an acrylic box connected to a pump through 0.22 microns pore-sized filters. The effect of the human recombinant tumor necrosis factor alpha (h rec TNF-alpha) on the transplantable Morris hepatoma 5123 was studied in Buffalo rats. Female SHR mice, aged 3.5 or 12 months, were exposed monthly to 5-day long courses of subcutaneous injections of 0.1 mg thymus-derived or pineal gland-derived polypeptide factors (TF and PF, respectively) or 0.9% sodium chloride solution (control). Nitroimidazole drugs were initially developed as selective radiosensitizers of hypoxic cells and, consequently, as adjuvants to improve the local control probabilities of current radiotherapies.
