Aspergillus mycetoma of the renal pelvis associated with ureteropelvic junction obstruction.

A case of aspergillosis of the kidney is described that could not be attributed to any of the factors that classically predispose to fungal infection (immunosuppressive, antibiotic or steroid therapy and diabetes). The patient did have severe obstruction of the ureteropelvic junction, which we believe caused stasis of urine and, in turn, the propagation of a colony of Aspergillus.

Carcinoma of the renal pelvis: an analysis of the diagnostic problems in 23 cases.

A series of 23 patients with carcinoma of the renal pelvis is presented. The different presentations are described and discussed, and the difficulties in establishing a preoperative diagnosis are considered. There were 3 squamous cell carcinomas in the series, all of them associated with renal stone and urinary tract infection.

[Reconstructive operations in post-thrombophlebitis syndrome of the pelvis and the lower limbs].

Based on the analysis of serial phlebograms (in 155 patients), kinematophlebograms (in 51 patients) and operative findings (in 42 patients), the authors differentiate 7 types of localization of venous occlusions of the lower extremities and pelvis in post-thrombophlebitic syndrome. The suggested classification is an aid in selecting the technic of surgical intervention. Further, the authors share their experience with reconstructive operations on the venous system in postthrombophlebitic syndrome of the lower extremities in 40 patients.

Subepithelial hemorrhage in the renal pelvis and ureter simulating pyeloureteritis cystica.

Two children are presented with similar appearing small urographic defects in the ureter and renal pelvis similar to pyeloureteritis cystica. In one patient with aplastic anemia who died the abnormalities represented areas of subepithelial hemorrhage. Another child had clinically diagnosed Henoch-Schonlein purpura and the defects were probably due to subepithelial hemorrhage.
