Prognostic factors in the occurrence of posttraumatic epilepsy after penetrating head injury suffered during military service.

In this retrospective study, the authors evaluated confounding risk factors, which are allegedly influential in causing unprovoked posttraumatic epilepsy, in 489 patients from the frontlines of the Iran-Iraq War. Four hundred eighty-nine patients were followed for 6 to154 months (mean 39.4 months, median 23 months), and important factors precipitating posttraumatic epilepsy were evaluated using uni- and multivariate regression analysis. One hundred fifty-seven (32%) of 489 patients became epileptic during the study period. The results of univariate analysis indicated a significant relationship

Polynuclear Complexes of Nd and Dy with N2O3 Donor Ligands: Solution Speciation and Selective Precipitation Studies.

This study explores the formation and selective separation of polynuclear neodymium and dysprosium complexes with N2O3 donor ligands derived from N,N-bis(salicylidene)-1,3-diamino-2-propanol (H3LH). The research focuses on the structural characterization and solution speciation of Nd3+ and Dy3+ complexes by using ligands with different peripheral substituents: H3LH, H3Lp-OMe, and H3Lo-tBu. These substituents significantly influence the nuclearity of the resulting complexes. For Dy3+, single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SC-XRD) revealed a range of molecular architectures, from dinuclear to hexanu

[Solute transport modeling application in groundwater organic contaminant source identification].

Investigation and numerical simulation, based on RT3D (reactive transport in 3-dimensions)were used to identify the source of tetrachloroethylene (PCE) and trichloroethylene (TCE) in the groundwater of a city in the north of China and reverse the input intensity. Multiple regressions were applied to analyze the influenced factors of input intensity of PCE and TCE using Stepwise function in Matlab. The results indicate that the factories and industries are the source of the PCE and TCE in groundwater. Natural attenuation was identified and the natural attenuation rates are 93.15%, 61.70% and 61

Insomnia Disorder: Gender Issues Over the Lifespan.

Insomnia disorder is the most common sleep disorder in the general population, with higher prevalence in women. Three specific periods in a woman's life-puberty, pregnancy and menopause-seem to be associated with marked gender differences in insomnia prevalence. Puberty is a critical stage for the development of insomnia, with an increase in its prevalence among girls after menarche. During pregnancy and the postpartum period, women also report a rise in insomnia symptoms. Various factors, including hormonal, physiological, relational, emotional and environmental ones, can affect sleep during

What are the essential ingredients of a CBT case conceptualization for voices and delusions in schizophrenia spectrum disorders? A study of expert consensus.

Evidence supports the use of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) for the treatment of patients with schizophrenia spectrum disorders. A case conceptualization (CC) (or case formulation) is seen as the keystone of CBT in terms of making sense of a patient's difficulties, to guide and inform such treatment. Despite the importance placed on CC there is no known consensus amongst experts as to the essential ingredients involved in this fundamental process. This study used the Delphi method to establish expert consensus for the essential components of a CC when working to treat auditory hallucinati

Spatiotemporal dynamics of the capture rate of Rattus tanezumi and its implications for rodent-borne diseases in the Three Gorges Reservoir Area, China.

Rattus tanezumi (R. tanezumi) is a major amplifying host for plague and an important reservoir host for multiple zoonotic pathogens, including leptospirosis and hantavirus. Its population dynamics in the Three Gorges Reservoir (TGR) Area of China are influenced by climate and reservoir-induced environmental changes, thereby impacting disease transmission risks. Based on rodent capture rate data collected using cage traps during night surveys in January, March, May, July, September, and November each year from 2015 to 2021, this study investigated the spatiotemporal dynamics of R. tanezumi and

Acute Respiratory Deterioration Following Parvovirus B19 Infection in a Patient With Interstitial Lung Disease: A Case Report.

Acute exacerbation of interstitial lung disease (AE-ILD) is often idiopathic, although viral infections are recognized precipitating factors. We report an adult patient with underlying ILD who developed acute respiratory deterioration in the setting of primary parvovirus B19 infection. A 70-year-old Japanese man was admitted to our department with a low-grade fever and a facial rash. Two years prior to admission, the patient had been diagnosed with ILD, which had been treated with systemic corticosteroids that were subsequently discontinued following clinical improvement. Autoimmune neuropathies: New guidelines and expert insights into clinical decision making.

INTRODUCTION: Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) and chronic demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP) are immune-mediated demyelinating neuropathies that may have similar symptoms in their early stages. GBS is generally monophasic with acute, progressive, flaccid paralysis of the extremities accompanied by reduced/absent reflexes. The onset of GBS is often 1-2 weeks after a precipitating event and reaches its nadir by 4 weeks. With CIDP the progressive phase by definition lasts more than 2 months, although it can be shorter in acute-onset forms which initially resemble GBS. AREAS COVERED: In this revie
