INTRODUCTION: Custodial-HTK (Histidine-Tryptophan- Ketoglutarate) solution and blood cardioplegia are both established methods for myocardial protection during cardiac surgery. However, their utility in patients undergoing complex cardiac surgery is not extensively study. We report a case of sudden hearing loss in a patient with acute exudative tonsillitis, occurring 15 minutes after the intramuscular administration of penicillin. Audiological evaluation documented a profound sensorineural hearing loss of the cochlear type. The conductive-capsular anesthesia was used in 31 patients in operations on distal segments of extremities. The anesthesia was achieved by injection of 0.5% solution of novocain which is introduced into muscular capsules of the proximal segment of the extremity between two parallel tourniquets. Effective regional anesthesia took place in all the cases lower than the tourniquet. No complications were noted in the postoperative period.

Reports of whether or not bupivacaine affects neonatal neurobehavior have been contradictory. The purpose of this study was to test the hypothesis that scores on the Brazelton Neonatal Behavioral Assessment Scale (BNBAS) after epidural anesthesia with bupivacaine for cesarean section would not be different than those after chloroprocaine. The incidence and degree of hypotension, time to establish surgical analgesia, and several other maternal and fetal variables were studied when 2-chloroprocaine, 3 per cent, and bupivacaine, 0.5 per cent, were used for epidural analgesia in 30 women undergoing elective cesarean section. Surgical analgesia occurred 8 min sooner (P less than 0.001) with chloroprocaine (14 +/- 1 min) than with bupivacaine (22 +/- 2 min). Among the different etiological factors of spastic torticollis the authors attribute the main role to the gamma-motor system. They have elaborated a treatment method which blocks the neuromotor points of the gamma-motor system in the sternocleidomastoid and Musculus trapesius muscle by alcoholnovocain or phenolglycerine. Measurements of the penicillin concentration in serum and cerebrospinal fluid patients with neurosyphilis showed that conventional therapy can attain effective treponemocidal levels for only a short time or not at all in the CSF and brain-tissue, the regions where the treponemas are found in this particular stage of disease.
