OBJECTIVE: To examine the associations between intraocular pressure (IOP) and various ocular parameters among adolescents in central China.
METHODS: This cross-sectional study included 2,267 participants from 40 classes across four junior high schools. We present a case of persisting diplopia after bilateral laser in situ keratomileusis in a patient with high anisometropia and amblyopia. Treatment of this complication by ocular-muscle surgery was not possible because of missing fusion. We suggest that, especially in cases with anisometropia, a complete examination of binocularity be performed before refractive surgery.

A dry eye history questionnaire was completed by 500 patients who presented for the correction of refractive errors (normals), and 68 patients with previously diagnosed sicca syndrome. Subsamples of females over 45 years were extracted for comparison, and discriminant analysis yielded correct classification for 62 of 63 sicca subjects and 36 of 37 normals, representing 98% sensitivity and 97% specificity. PURPOSE: Previous studies have shown small but clinically significant changes in the power and axis of astigmatism when the eye accommodates. Monocular objective measurements of the eye during accommodation, when the object approaches the eye without convergence, also reveal small astigmatic changes.
