Ruminal Magnesium Transport Revisited: Apparent Absorption and Estimate of Requirement.

The pathogenesis of hypomagnesemia is caused in most cases by impaired magnesium (Mg) absorption and not by an insufficient Mg intake. Recen … t in the diet has no effect on Mg absorption. However, hypomagnesemia is still a problem in grazing ruminants without sufficient supplementation.

Bullying Profiles and Co-Rumination: A Latent Transition Analysis in Adolescents.

Bullying during adolescence implies different forms of involvement that shape specific profiles, whose identification allows for understanding this phenomenon. However, it is essential to explore the mechanisms associated with the persistence or change of these profiles over time. Co-rumination may be crucial as a social-cognitive process in bullying development, reinforcing negative thought patterns among peers. The aim of this study was to examine involvement in bullying by identifying participation profiles and analyzing their longitudinal probability of stability or transition according to

Network localization of brain structural and functional abnormalities in association with rumination.

BACKGROUND: Rumination, a recurrent and passive focus of thoughts on depressed mood and its possible causes and consequences, constitutes a characteristic feature of major depressive disorder (MDD). Despite considerable recent efforts to map neuropsychiatric symptoms to specific brain networks, little attention has been paid to network localization of rumination. METHODS: We initially conducted a systematic review of 49 published neuroimaging studies to identify rumination-related brain structural and functional alterations. Subsequently, by integrating these affected brain locations with lar

Cognitive and Affective Correlates of Handedness: Interactions with Gender Dysphoria and Rumination.

BACKGROUND: The adversities and inheritance patterns of left-handedness have been associated with gender-related distress. Such driving factors predispose individuals to multiple mental health outcomes, shifting attention to the role of ruminative thinking. PURPOSE: The study seeks to examine the effects of handedness patterns on gender dysphoria and rumination among young adults, observing the intricate relationships among these variables and postulating a substantial influence of handedness on both gender-related distress and rumination in this population. METHODS: A cross-sectional design

Indirect paths to posttraumatic growth: The role of war exposure and rumination.

Exposure to armed conflicts profoundly impacts individuals and their communities but provides an opportunity to experience posttraumatic growth (PTG). Whereas most studies examined the direct exposure to the traumatic event, this study investigated the direct and indirect links between type of war exposure (self-exposure, close others' exposure, acquaintances' exposure), and rumination (deliberate and intrusive) to PTG in Israelis following the Israel-Hamas war. Participants (n = 455) completed measures of war exposure, rumination, and PTG. Exposures of close-others and acquaintances were asso

Subacute ruminal acidosis in cattle: A critical review of clinical management.

Subacute Ruminal Acidosis (SARA) is a prevalent metabolic disorder in high-producing dairy and beef cattle, resulting from prolonged ruminal pH depression due to the provision of excessive amount of rapidly fermentable carbohydrates combined with inadequate fiber intake. The condition impairs rumen function, reduces feed efficiency, and negatively affects animal health and productivity. This review critically examines current approaches to the diagnosis and clinical management of SARA, with particular emphasis on recent advances in diagnostic methods, including computerized rumen mucosa colori

Network analysis of interactions of rumination and anxiety on smartphone dependence symptoms.

OBJECTIVE: Rumination and anxiety have been posited as correlates of smartphone dependence (SPD). However, little is known regarding how the components of both affect SPD symptoms at subtle levels. Therefore, we used the network analysis approach to identify the connections at a micro level to provide possible interventions for reducing SPD symptoms. METHODS: Using symptom-level network analysis, we used the ruminative response scale-10, the generalized anxiety disorder scale-7, and the mobile phone addiction index scale-17 to investigate Chinese preservice teachers (M age = 21.1, N = 1160).

How rumination affect suicidal ideation: a moderated mediation model.

BACKGROUND: Rumination is regarded as a cognitive risk factor and a focal point of clinical interventions aimed at mitigating suicidal ideation. Nonetheless, the mechanisms how rumination affects suicidal ideation warrant further exploration. METHODS: A cohort of 831 Chinese college students (M age = 19.30 years, SD age = 1.17; 444 females) completed a questionnaire composed of the Ruminative Responses Scale, Entrapment Scale, Mindfulness Attention Awareness Scale, and Self-Rating Idea of Suicide Scale. A moderated mediation model was used to explore the relationship between rumination, entra

Limited Validity of Breath-Counting as a Measure of Mindfulness in Ruminative Adolescents.

Objective measurement of mindfulness could help us understand the mechanisms of meditation interventions and how individuals vary in their disposition to be mindful. One proposed measure is the breath-counting task (BCT), which measures how accurately one can count cycles of their breath. Breath counting, which involves sustained attention, meta-awareness, and an internal locus of attention, has been shown in adults to be related to measures of mindfulness even when controlling for established attentional measures. In this study, we test the psychometrics of the BCT in a convenience sample of

Impact of chronotype on depression: The mediating roles of rumination and perceived stress.

Chronotype represents an independent risk factor for depression, yet the psychological mechanisms underlying this association remain unclear. Potential mediators may include social jetlag (SJL), sleep quality, rumination, and perceived stress. Thus, this China-based study enrolled 122 patients with Depressive Episode (DE) and 126 healthy Controls (HC), assessing participants using: the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Morningness-Eveningness Questionnaire (MEQ), Munich Chronotype Questionnaire (MCTQ), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Ruminative Response Scale (RRS), and Perceived Stress

Resting-State Neural Signatures of Moral Injury: Associations With Rumination.

BACKGROUND: Moral injury (MI) is a condition that may emerge following a violation of an individual's moral code. MI leads to significant functional impairment in many trauma-exposed civilians, with rumination proposed as a mechanism of action. Little is known about the neuropathophysiology of different MI dimensions, including MI related to transgressions caused by the self or others. We examined links between facets of MI, resting-state amplitude of low-frequency fluctuations (ALFF), and rumination in trauma-exposed civilians. METHODS: Sixty adults (ages 18-56 years; 51 female) completed me

Indecisiveness moderates the relationship between rumination modes and depressive symptoms.

INTRODUCTION: Major depressive disorder is a debilitating and common mental health condition. Rumination and indecisiveness are both well-established cognitive risk factors for depressive symptoms, but their interactive effects remain underexplored. Drawing on theories about rumination's level of construal, which distinguish between abstract and concrete modes of thinking, this study examined whether aversive indecisiveness moderates the relationships between rumination modes (abstract and concrete) and concurrent depressive symptoms. METHOD: We recruited two samples: an undergraduate student

The impacts of rumination and affective symptoms on subjective-objective sleep discrepancy.

Prior research has shown a strong association between insomnia and affective symptoms including depressive and anxiety symptoms. Rumination, defined as repetitive negative thinking, impacts both insomnia and affective symptoms. However, relying solely on self-reported sleep measures, it remains unclear whether rumination and affective symptoms interact with their subjective-objective sleep discrepancy (SOSD) rather than perceived sleep duration per se. SOSD is defined as a mismatch between perceived and objectively measured total sleep time (TST). Negative SOSD (i.e. underestimating TST) is a

From thoughts to symptoms: The temporal and dimensional dynamics of rumination in depression.

Rumination, characterized by persistent, repetitive focus on negative thoughts or emotions, has long been implicated as a central transdiagnostic process in Major Depressive Disorder (MDD). Although many studies have examined the rumination-depression temporal relationship, findings vary depending on design, measurement, and analytic approach. The present study applies a multiscale, data-driven framework to describe how rumination and depressive symptoms unfold across different temporal modes. Using Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD) and Granger causality in two longitudinal ecological momenta

Misophonia symptom severity is linked to impaired flexibility and heightened rumination.

Misophonia is a disorder involving sensitivity to certain sounds and related stimuli. Here, we explore the relationship between misophonia and affective flexibility, which describes cognitive shifting abilities in the face of emotion-evoking stimuli. The secondary aim of this study is to test the potential association between misophonia and cognitive flexibility, building upon findings from previous research. The third objective is to examine the relationship between misophonia and rumination. One hundred and forty participants completed the Memory and Affective Flexibility Task (MAFT), design

Negative rumination in depression subtypes with melancholic features and anxious distress.

BACKGROUND: Aberrant cognition is one of the crucial symptoms of depression. However, whether the negative rumination participates in depression with melancholic features or anxious distress remains unclear. METHODS: In this study, we addressed this issue by compiling a questionnaire that can comprehensively measure the negative cognitive processing bias in depression. We also conducted an exhaustive analysis of its influencing factors, including the subtype of depression, age, gender, age of onset, family history of mental disorder, and education year. RESULTS: We found that depression incr

Nonpharmacological treatment of rumination syndrome in childhood: A systematic review of the literature.

Rumination syndrome (RS) is a complex functional disorder characterized by recurrent, repetitive regurgitation of recently swallowed food. RS may have medical and psychosocial implications, compromising the quality of life and causing high rates of school absenteeism. Pediatric RS has been poorly studied and little evidence regarding its treatment is available. This systematic review aims to evaluate the literature on the nonpharmacological treatment of RS in childhood. A systematic literature search was conducted on MEDLINE/PubMed, CINAHL, Cochrane Library, PsycINFO, and PEDro, from 2000 to 2

Rumination in dementia and its relationship with depression, anxiety, and attentional biases.

Rumination (self-referential and repetitive thinking), attentional biases (AB), and impaired cognitive control are theorized as being integral factors in depression and anxiety. Yet, research examining the relationship between rumination, mood, and AB for populations with reduced cognitive control, e.g., people living with dementia (PwD), is lacking. To explore whether literature-based relationships are demonstrated in dementia, PwD (n = 64) and healthy controls (HC) (n = 75) completed an online self-report survey measuring rumination and mood (twice), and a telephone cognitive status intervie
