We have reported the usefulness of percutaneous or transurethral whole layer core biopsy (WLCB) of bladder wall for staging of invasive bladder cancer. We have applied WLCB to 3 cases of paravesical tumor with good results. The first case was in a 3-year-old boy suspected of retrovesical sarcoma. A 78 years old male patient with diarrhea, hyponatremia and hypokalemia caused by a gigantic rectal villous adenoma is presented. A Chagas megacolon was also found. The patient was operated, finding an vast soft polypoid lesion that occupied all the rectum and inferior sigmoid colon, a megarectum and megasigmoid. This report presents a case of colonic adenoma which developed after ureterosigmoidostomy. A 71-year-old man was initially treated by total cystectomy and ureterosigmoidostomy for transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder in 1970. In 1983, a routine checkup revealed urinary occult blood. A barium enema x-ray showed a polypoid lesion in the sigmoid colon. Colonoscopy confirmed the presence of the polyp adjacent to the ureteral stoma. Preoperative irradiation for adenocarcinoma of the rectum and sigmoid does not always limit the surgery to an abdominoperineal resection. From 1960 to 1976 anterior resection and primary anastomosis of the bowel has been performed in 13 patients with adenocarcinoma of the rectum and sigmoid whose tumor had been irradiated with 5000 rads with small pelvic fields. This study was performed to clarify the clinical and pathological characteristics of T1 colorectal cancer. From 1987 to 2003, a total of 223 patients with T1 colorectal cancer were treated at our institute. Disease recurrence occurred in eight (3%) of these cases. The original sites of cancer were the ascending colon (n = 1), sigmoid colon (n = 2), and rectum (n = 5). We performed primary lesion resection in a 48-year-old man diagnosed with sigmoid colon cancer showing multiple liver metastases and extensive lymph node metastases. Endocrine cell carcinoma was diagnosed from an excised specimen.
