BACKGROUND: Multiple endocrine neoplasia (MEN) type 2b syndrome is accompanied by typical ocular findings; however, the disease is often only diagnosed at an advanced stage by symptoms of C-cell carcinoma or pheochromocytoma and is then fatal in most cases. Therefore, the importance of ophthalmic assessment in making the diagnosis has to be stressed.
METHODS: The history and ocular findings of a patient with MEN 2b syndrome are described, and a brief overview of the syndrome is given.

PURPOSE: To investigate the vitreous findings in patients with cicatricial retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) who underwent retinal cryopexy and/or photocoagulation during the acute phase of the disease.

We present a case of ophthalmomyiasis externa in a 54-year-old man in southwest Germany (Baden-Württemberg). After the patient had been attacked by a fly, he complained of a foreign-body sensation and itching in his right eye and developed purulent conjunctivitis. The anterior chamber of adult pigmented rabbits was perfused with 1 ml of either 0.02% or 0.2% thymoxamine hydrochloride in Balanced Salt Solution. During a recent four-year period, 21 patients were referred to the Oncology Service at Wills Eye Hospital with previously unsuspected posterior uveal melanomas in an eye that had been operated upon for a unilateral cataract. PURPOSE: The phenotype of North Carolina macular dystrophy (NCMD) is highly variable and remains poorly appreciated and understood, often causing misdiagnoses in isolated cases.
