Penetration of fluconazole into female genital tissues was examined. Fluconazole was administered orally at a dose of 150 mg to patients undergoing total abdominal hysterectomy 1 to 151 h prior to surgery. A simple and rapid analytical method for carbapenems using high-performance capillary electrophoresis is described. All therapeutic carbapenem injections in Japan (imipenem, panipenem and meropenem) and four other beta-lactams (piperacillin, cefotiam, cefotaxime, latamoxef) were separated and determined with good repeatability in about 10 min using simple free zone capillary electrophoresis. Least squares method in matrix form which is K-matrix representation of Beer's law is presented for simultaneous determination of ibuprofen and paracetamol in tablets without prior separation from each other. The concentration of each component in the mixture was determined spectrophotometrically from absorbances of the mixture measured at 225, 226, 228, 232, 230, 234, and 235 nm. Mixtures of known composition were used as standards to minimise errors due to presence of both compounds in the same solution. Excellent results were obtained by this method.

This work compares two different methods for assaying hydrogen cyanide, a spectrophotometric method and a headspace gas chromatographic method, each with its own reference standard generation. In the first method, the reference standards are cyanide solutions. In the second method, the reference standards are based upon the in situ reduction of ethyl thiocyanate by dithiothreitol to produce hydrogen cyanide. An automatic flow-injection photometric method for the determination of bromhexine is proposed. The drug was determined by formation of an ion-pair with orange IV, extraction into 1,2-dichloroethane and measurement of the absorbance at 412 nm of the organic phase. A linear calibration graph was obtained at concentrations of 5 x 10(-6)-1.6 x 10(-4) M of bromhexine. Up to 40 samples h-1 can be processed with an RSD of 0.32-0.88%. The method was applied to the determination of bromhexine in blood serum and a pharmaceutical preparation.

In this article we report on the steady-state kinetics of the chlorination and the stability of the vanadium chloroperoxidase from the fungus Curvularia inaequalis. The data show that the kinetics of this enzyme resemble that of the vanadium bromoperoxidase from the seaweed Ascophyllum nodosum. At low pH, chloride inhibited the enzyme, but the inhibition was of a dual nature. Cyclic nucleotides are recognized as important second messenger molecules, and many assay formats exist for their quantification. This article critically reviews these different approaches. For measurement of cAMP or cGMP in biological fluids or tissue extracts, immunoassay is effective. For other purposes, such as measurement of cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase activity, methods that separate nucleotides from their cyclic counterparts are best, and offer a variety of means of detection.
