Development of a Medication-Related Osteonecrosis of the Jaw Prediction Model Using the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System Database and Machine Learning.

Background: Medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) is a rare but serious adverse event. Herein, we conducted a quantitative structure-activity relationship analysis using the U.S. Food and Drug Administration Adverse Drug Reaction Database System (FAERS) and machine learning to construct a drug prediction model for MRONJ induction based solely on chemical structure information. Methods: A total of 4815 drugs from FAERS were evaluated, including 70 and 139 MRONJ-positive and MRONJ-negative drugs, respectively, identified based on reporting odds ratios, Fisher's exact tests, and ≥10

A deep-learning approach to predict bleeding risk over time in patients on extended anticoagulation therapy.

BACKGROUND: Thus far, all the clinical models developed to predict major bleeding in patients on extended anticoagulation therapy use the baseline predictors to stratify patients into different risk groups. Therefore, these models do not account for the clinical changes and events that occur after the baseline visit, which can modify risk of bleeding. However, it is difficult to develop predictive models from the routine follow-up clinical interviews, which are irregular sequences of multivariate time series data. OBJECTIVES: To demonstrate that deep learning can incorporate patient time seri

A Machine Learning Framework for Parkinson's Disease Detection Through Turning Metrics.

This study presents a machine learning framework for the automated detection of Parkinson's disease (PD) using turning metrics derived from inertial measurement units (IMUs) and pressure sensors. Utilizing the Smart-Insole Dataset, which includes data from 29 individuals (13 healthy adults, 9 older adults, and 8 PD patients both on and off medication), the study introduces an algorithm to automatically detect turning points, eliminating the need for manual annotation or clinician supervision. A feature extraction pipeline is then implemented to extract entropy and smoothness metrics from the i

Development and verification of a combined diagnostic model for primary Sjögren's syndrome by integrated bioinformatics analysis and machine learning.

Primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS) is a chronic, systemic autoimmune disease mostly affecting the exocrine glands. This debilitating condition is complex and specific treatments remain unavailable. There is a need for the development of novel diagnostic models for early screening. Four gene profiling datasets were downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus database. The 'limma' software package was used to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs). A random forest-supervised classification algorithm was used to screen disease-specific genes, and three machine learning algorithms, including

Cooperative GAN: Automated tympanic membrane anomaly detection using a Cooperative Observation Network.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Recently, artificial intelligence (AI) has been applied to otolaryngology. However, existing supervised learning methods cannot easily predict data outside the learning domain. Moreover, collecting diverse medical data has become demanding owing to privacy concerns. Consequently, these limitations hinder the applications of AI in clinical settings. To address these issues, this study proposes a Cooperative Observation Network (CON), using an unsupervised anomaly detection approach. Anomaly detection is the process of identifying data patterns that deviate from the ma

Interpretable Spectral Evidence Learning from Vis/NIR Imaging for Non-Destructive Authentication of Herbal Medicines.

Rapid and non-destructive authentication of herbal medicines is important for quality control and market supervision. This study established an interpretable spectral evidence learning framework for visible and near-infrared (Vis/NIR) imaging-based authentication of Codonopsis Radix (CR) and Aurantii Fructus (AF). Compact 31-band mean gray-value spectra were analyzed at ROI and sample levels. CR sample-level spectra were obtained by ROI-group averaging, whereas AF records were retained as individual sample spectra with image-group information used for leakage-controlled validation. Raw spectra

Predictive estimation of economic outcome changes associated with legal frameworks and public health policy conditions.

INTRODUCTION: Public health policies are implemented within legal and regulatory environments associated with heterogeneous economic and health related outcomes across regions and time. Existing policy evaluation approaches often have limited capacity to represent regional heterogeneity, temporal policy patterns, and uncertainty in observed policy associated outcome changes. To address this issue, this study proposes a predictive computational framework for estimating subsequent economic outcome changes under observed public health policy, legal, and regulatory conditions. METHODS: The empiri

Distinguishing a drug use disorder from drug use in a high-risk sample of youth: A random forest classification and explanatory analysis.

Although many adolescents and young adults experiment with drugs, a subset may develop a drug use disorder (DUD). Few studies have used machine learning to identify risk and protective factors associated with DUDs, and to the best of our knowledge, none have been conducted with a high-risk youth sample or incorporated explanatory analyses to understand how such factors influence model predictions. We sought to address these gaps by estimating a random forest to identify salient risk and protective factors that differentiate youth with a DUD from their peers who use drugs but do not meet diagno
