BACKGROUND: Well-documented evidence shows that estrogen increases the risk of deep vein thrombosis (DVT), and that the effects of DVT are compounded by the stress of surgery and an anesthetic.

In this paper, we describe our experience in treating migraine headache localized in the occipital area. Using our minimally-invasive approach, from June 2011 till January 2022, we have performed MH decompression surgery over 232 patients with occipital migraine trigger site. After a mean follow-up of 20 months (range, 3-62 months), patients complaining for occipital MH had 94% positive surgical outcome (86% complete MH elimination). Patients seek facial plastic surgery to feel better, not only look better. As surgery is an inherently traumatic event, regardless of the result, patients seeking secondary facial plastic surgery procedures should be evaluated for possible traumatic response to prior surgery in initial consultation. Herein, we cover the history of trauma and trauma-informed counseling along with common approaches employed by counselors certified in this therapeutic approach. If signs of traumatic response are identified, trauma-informed counseling offers a valuable intervention to improve care.

Dr Adams was one of the most prominent members of the American Association of Plastic Surgeons and served as secretary and president (1954) of the American Society of Plastic Surgery. Although Dr Adams died unexpectedly at 51 years of age (1957), he described many new techniques and published several outstanding and innovating papers. He was the first to report, in 1942, the use of subcutaneous wires for internal fixation of fractures of the upper jaw.
