Sedentary behaviour interventions in rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis: a systematic scoping review of intervention content, perceived acceptability and efficacy.

BACKGROUND: Sedentary behaviour (SB) is receiving increasing attention as a potential target for behavioural change interventions in people with Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA), to improve RA outcomes. The primary aim of this review was to describe the design and content of existing SB interventions in RA with a focus on the use of digital technology and Behaviour Change Techniques (BCTs). Secondary aims were to understand how SB is conceptualised in intervention studies, and report data on participants' perceptions of acceptable and/or engaging components, adherence, and intervention efficacy. Transferability Based on Drug Structure Similarity in the Automatic Classification of Noncompliant Drug Use on Social Media: Natural Language Processing Approach.

BACKGROUND: Medication noncompliance is a critical issue because of the increased number of drugs sold on the web. Web-based drug distribution is difficult to control, causing problems such as drug noncompliance and abuse. The existing medication compliance surveys lack completeness because it is impossible to cover patients who do not go to the hospital or provide accurate information to their doctors, so a social media-based approach is being explored to collect information about drug use. Social media data, which includes information on drug usage by users, can be used to detect drug abuse

Economic Burden of Human Immunodeficiency Virus and Hypertension Care Among MOPHADHIV Trial Participants: Patient Costs and Determinants of Out-of-Pocket Expenditure in South Africa.

Background: Human immunodeficiency virus and hypertension increasingly co-occur in South Africa. Despite publicly funded care, patients with multimorbidity face high out-of-pocket costs, yet limited evidence exists from the patient perspective. Purpose: To quantify the economic burden of comorbid HIV and hypertension, assess predictors of monthly out-of-pocket costs, and explore coping mechanisms. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional analysis using patient-level data from the Mobile Phone Text Messages to Improve Hypertension Medication Adherence in Adults with HIV (MOPHADHIV trial) [Trial

Protocol to evaluate sequential electronic health record-based strategies to increase genetic testing for breast and ovarian cancer risk across diverse patient populations in gynecology practices.

BACKGROUND: Germline genetic testing is recommended by the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) for individuals including, but not limited to, those with a personal history of ovarian cancer, young-onset (< 50 years) breast cancer, and a family history of ovarian cancer or male breast cancer. Genetic testing is underused overall, and rates are consistently lower among Black and Hispanic populations. Behavioral economics-informed implementation strategies, or nudges, directed towards patients and clinicians may increase the use of this evidence-based clinical practice. METHODS: Patient

Protocol for a pragmatic stepped wedge cluster randomized clinical trial testing behavioral economic implementation strategies to increase supplemental breast MRI screening among patients with extremely dense breasts.

BACKGROUND: Increased breast density augments breast cancer risk and reduces mammography sensitivity. Supplemental breast MRI screening can significantly increase cancer detection among women with dense breasts. However, few women undergo this exam, and screening is consistently lower among racially minoritized populations. Implementation strategies informed by behavioral economics ("nudges") can promote evidence-based practices by improving clinician decision-making under conditions of uncertainty. Nudges directed toward clinicians and patients may facilitate the implementation of supplementa

Chatbot Outreach in Value-Based Preventive Care: Retrospective Analysis.

BACKGROUND: As health care delivery shifts toward value-based care, proactive strategies to close preventive care gaps are essential. However, patient engagement remains suboptimal due to logistical, behavioral, and socioeconomic barriers. Traditional outreach methods, such as phone calls, emails, and postal mail, have long been used, but emerging digital approaches, such as chatbot-based messaging, offer potential advantages in scalability and personalization. Their comparative effectiveness, however, remains underexplored. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of chatbot

Tobacco dependence treatment in the emergency department: A randomized trial using the Multiphase Optimization Strategy.

BACKGROUND: Tobacco dependence remains the leading preventable cause of death in the developed world. Smokers are disproportionately from lower socioeconomic groups, and may use the hospital emergency department (ED) as an important source of care. A recent clinical trial demonstrated the efficacy of a multicomponent intervention to help smokers quit, but the independent contributions of those components is unknown. METHODS: This is a full-factorial (16-arm) randomized trial in a busy hospital ED of 4 tobacco dependence interventions: brief motivational interviewing, nicotine replacement ther

Development of a Behavioral Intervention, Increasing HPV Vaccine Uptake-Delivered in Dental Settings (HPV Vaccine Uptake-DDS).

We developed a behavioral intervention designed to address barriers faced by dental practitioners promoting the Human Papillomavirus vaccine to eligible patients. Guided by the Behavior Change Wheel; our approach included a rapid literature review and interviews with dental practitioners to identify and understand these barriers. We then applied the Capability, Opportunity, Motivation and Behavior model and the Theoretical Domains Framework to identify and specify draft intervention functions which were mapped to the Behavior Change Technique Taxonomy. These functions target key barriers, in p

Protocol for a single-arm, multi-component behavior change technique (BCT) intervention to develop a walking habit among caregivers for persons with Alzheimer disease and related dementias (ADRD).

Even low to moderate physical activity is critical in improving and maintaining physical health and well-being. Caregivers of people living with Alzheimer disease and related dementias (ADRD) are a burdened population and, as such, can experience challenges with managing even modest increases in physical activity while caring for others. While some interventions have been proposed to increase physical activity, many fail to consider the unique needs of caregivers of people with ADRD. The purpose of this 12-week decentralized behavioral trial is to test the efficacy of a multi-component, person

Individual and Co-Occurring Social Needs, and Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening Among Patients in Texas Federally Qualified Health Centers.

IntroductionWhile prior research has examined individual health-related social needs (HRSNs) in relation to preventive care, few studies have investigated how cumulative social needs affect cancer screening behaviors. This study examines how individual and combined HRSNs affect breast and cervical cancer screening completion.MethodsParticipants included 1,964 female patients overdue for breast or cervical cancer screening, receiving care at Federally Qualified Health Centers. The dependent variable was the completion of the appropriate screening test within 90 days of SMS text message reminder

A Qualitative Exploration of Post-Injury Challenges and the Potential Role of the PTSD Coach Mobile Application to Improve Recovery Among Acutely Injured Patients.

OBJECTIVE: Digital interventions designed to prevent development of chronic pain and comorbid mental health symptoms, specifically targeting the acute injury recovery period, are in the early stages of development. The evidence-based PTSD Coach mobile application is a free resource offering cognitive-behavioral interventions to self-manage posttraumatic symptoms; it is used widely in varied populations, and it is feasible and acceptable to injured Emergency Department patients. However, patients' subjective experience and feedback regarding optimizing the app are lacking. METHODS: We conducte

Barriers to and facilitators of cancer prevention services for transgender and gender-diverse people: A systematic review.

OBJECTIVE: Despite the increasing adoption of gender-inclusive policies, transgender and gender-diverse (TGD) people continue to face significant barriers to cancer prevention services, resulting in low uptake of cancer screening and HPV vaccination. This review aimed to synthesize evidence on barriers and facilitators to cancer prevention among TGD people to inform more inclusive and effective policies and programmes. METHODS: Searches were performed in Medline (1946), Cochrane CENTRAL (1992), CINAHL (1982), PsycINFO (1806), Web of Science (1975), and EMBASE (1971) from inception up to July

Delivery of Dietary Advice for Type 2 Diabetes in Dental Settings and Its Relevance to Dental Practitioners: A Scoping Review.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Diabetes and periodontal disease are inflammatory conditions where lifestyle interventions such as dietary messages could improve outcomes of both chronic conditions. Dental practitioners could support this behavioral intervention during periodontal treatment and maintenance in people with diabetes and periodontal diseases. However, studies that assess dietary interventions in type 2 diabetes patients within dental context setting are limited. METHODS: This scoping review was completed based on the Joanna Briggs Institute methodology for scoping reviews. An initial compre

Everyday positioning experience in typically developing infants and infants with or at risk for cerebral palsy.

Infant positioning throughout everyday routines impacts physical growth, motor skill advancement, and access to learning opportunities supporting cognitive, social, and communicative development. However, we know little about everyday positioning experiences in infants with or at risk for developmental disabilities like cerebral palsy (CP) and how they differ from those of their typically developing peers. This study used Ecological Momentary Assessment to estimate time spent in different categories of posture (supine, prone, sitting, standing, and suspended) and support (self-support, adult s

Characteristics and Consequences of Intimate and Non-Intimate Partner Stalking in Lithuania.

It is widely acknowledged that intimate partner violence can occur in various disturbing forms, including stalking behaviors. However, until recently, intimate partner stalking remained an understudied phenomenon in Lithuania. This study investigated the characteristics of intimate partner (IP) stalking, victims' emotional reactions, and their coping strategies in a Lithuanian sample. A representative sample of 1,517 Lithuanian adults (Mage = 47.59 years, SD = 16.42) responded to an online survey. Of these, a total of 265 (18%) reported being stalked at least once during their lifetime, of whi

Promoting fluid intake to increase urine volume for kidney stone prevention: Protocol for a randomized controlled efficacy trial of the sipIT intervention.

BACKGROUND: Risk of kidney stone recurrence can be reduced by increasing fluid intake and urine production but most patients fail to adhere to recommended clinical guidelines. Patients have indicated that common barriers to fluid intake include a lack of thirst, forgetting to drink, and not having access to water. We developed the sipIT intervention to support patients' fluid intake with semi-automated tracking (via a mobile app, connected water bottle and a smartwatch clockface that detects drinking gestures) and provision of just-in-time text message reminders to drink when they do not meet

Experiences of schizophrenia patients with treatment buddy support during the COVID-19 pandemic.

BACKGROUND: Schizophrenia is a major psychiatric disorder affecting physical, psychosocial, and cognitive functioning. Treatment includes pharmacological and psychotherapeutic interventions. Adherence to prescribed medication is critical but reportedly low, because of side effects, failure to understand instructions, a lack of insight about the condition, cognitive deficits, and financial difficulties. Interventions to promote adherence to medication are required. This study introduced a treatment buddy to provide the patient with virtual support in adherence to medication. AIM: The aim of th
