Vital pulp therapy with new materials: new directions and treatment perspectives--permanent teeth.

Pulp necrosis in immature teeth subsequent to caries has a major impact on long-term tooth retention. The aim of vital pulp therapy is to maintain pulp viability by eliminating bacteria from the dentin-pulp complex and to establish an environment in which apexogenesis can occur. A complicating factor in treating immature teeth is the difficulty predicting the degree of pulpal damage. The ability of the clinician to manage the health of the remaining pulpal tissue during the procedure is paramount. Currently, the best method appears to be the ability to control pulpal hemorrhage by using sodium

Use of admixtures in organic-contaminated cement-clay pastes.

In this work microstructure, porosity and hydration degree of cement-based solidified/stabilized wasteforms were studied before assessing their leaching behaviour. 2-Chloroaniline was chosen as a model liquid organic pollutant and included into cement pastes, which were also modified with different admixtures for concrete: a superplasticizer based on acrylic-modified polymer, a synthetic rubber latex and a waterproofing agent. An organoclay, modified with an ammonium quaternary salt (benzyl-dimethyl-tallowammonium, BDMTA), was added to the pastes as pre-sorbent agent of the organic matter. All

Clinical, radiographic and histological analysis of the effects of mineral trioxide aggregate used in direct pulp capping and pulpotomies of primary teeth.

BACKGROUND: Primary teeth pulp exposures have traditionally been treated with formocresol or ferric sulphate pulpotomies or calcium hydroxide pulp capping. The aim of this study was to observe the tissue response when mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) was used. METHODS: Ten primary teeth had direct pulp caps and 11 had a pulpotomy with MTA. The teeth were restored and then clinically reviewed monthly for five months and before extraction. Radiographs were taken prior to treatment, after one month and prior to extraction. After extraction, the teeth were examined histologically and the response

Dens invaginatus in an immature maxillary lateral incisor: a case report of complex endodontic treatment.

This case report presents the surgical endodontic treatment of an Oehlers Class II invaginated immature tooth. In this case, communication between the invagination and the pulp caused pulp necrosis, periapical inflammation, and cessation of root formation. The initial treatment goal was to achieve apexification and then fill both the root canal and the canal of the invagination. After a 6-month treatment with calcium hydroxide dressings, there was no healing radiographically and no sign of a hard tissue barrier in the apex. Periapical surgery with the placement of mineral trioxide aggregate (M

Non-surgical management of post-traumatic internal and external inflammatory root resorption in an immature maxillary central incisor: 4-year follow-up.

Divergent pulpal responses following dental trauma may manifest as inflammatory resorption in one tooth and pulp canal obliteration (PCO) in other affected teeth. When such changes occur in an immature tooth with an open apex, diagnosis and treatment planning become particularly challenging. This case report describes a traumatised maxillary right central incisor in a young male patient with non-perforating internal root resorption (RR), external inflammatory RR and pulp necrosis, while the maxillary right lateral and left central incisors exhibited PCO. Cone-beam CT allowed precise definition

Management of progressive apical root resorption 13 years after dental trauma and primary endodontic treatment.

Many studies have focused on the search for a restorative material with good sealing properties and biocompatibility for treatment of teeth with open apices and necrotic pulps, which can result from periradicular disease and root resorption. Mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) has exhibited promising clinical results in retrograde fillings and pulpotomies as well as for treatment of root perforations, root resorptions, incomplete root formations, and pulpal necrosis. This case report describes the management of a progressive apical root resorption in a previously traumatized tooth that had been e

Organic and inorganic selenium speciation in environmental and biological samples by nanometer-sized materials packed dual-column separation/preconcentration on-line coupled with ICP-MS.

A novel, fast, and cheap nonchromatographic method for direct speciation of dissolved inorganic and organic selenium species in environmental and biological samples was developed by flow injection (FI) dual-column preconcentration/separation on-line coupled with ICP-MS determination. In the developed technique, the first column packed with nanometer-sized Al(2)O(3) could selectively adsorb the inorganic selenium [Se(IV), Se(VI)], and the retained inorganic selenium could be eluted by 0.2 mol l(-1) NaOH, while the organic Se [selenocystine (SeCys(2)) and selenomethionine (Se-Met)] was not retai
