Weight, height and body mass index in the prognosis of breast cancer: early results of a prospective study.

The hypothesis that obesity plays a role in the prognosis of breast cancer is examined in this preliminary analysis of a follow-up study of 472 early-stage breast cancer patients. The 75th percentile values of weight (= 73 kg) and body mass index (BMI = 28) in the total patient population were taken as the cut points for estimating overweight or "obesity". Stratified, survival, and logistic regression analyses showed that increased weight or BMI, but not height, were associated with increased risk recurrence. In the logistic regression analysis, after accounting for other risk factors, stage I

Longitudinal Changes in Body Weight and Body Mass Index in Patients with Chronic-Phase Chronic Myeloid Leukemia Treated with Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitors: A Retrospective Observational Study.

INTRODUCTION: Tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) have transformed chronic-phase chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) into a chronic condition with excellent long-term survival. As outcomes improve, attention has shifted toward treatment-related metabolic effects and survivorship issues. Body weight and body mass index (BMI) are important indicators of metabolic health; however, the long-term effects of TKIs on these parameters remain incompletely characterized, particularly in real-world settings. This study evaluated longitudinal changes in body weight and BMI in adults with chronic-phase CML treate…

Whole-body vibration administered during a 3-week in-hospital multidisciplinary body weight reduction program increases resting energy expenditure in obese adolescents, a randomized clinical trial.

BACKGROUND: Pediatric obesity is a growing global health concern, and interventions aimed at increasing resting energy expenditure (REE) have gained attention as complementary strategies to dietary restriction. Whole-body vibration (WBV), an innovative exercise mimetic, may offer metabolic and functional benefits, particularly in populations with limited exercise tolerance. This study was a randomized clinical trial aimed to evaluate the effects of incorporating WBV into a 3-week in-hospital multidisciplinary body weight reduction program (BWRP) in male adolescents with obesity. METHODS: Twen…

Conventional and machine learning-based analysis of age, body weight and body height significance in knot position-related thyrohyoid and cervical spine fractures in suicidal hangings.

The thyrohyoid complex and cervical spine fracture distribution patterns may reflect the knot position as the force distribution by the noose to different neck regions may vary depending on it. Recently, machine learning models (MLm) were used to classify knot position through these fractures. The contribution of aging on the fracture susceptibility is better demonstrated, but data on body weight (BW) and height (BH) significance on this is more doubtful and MLm did not consider them. A retrospectively obtained autopsy data on sex, age, BW, BH and distribution of greater hyoid bone horn (GHH),…

Effects of Body-Mass-Scaled Protein and Leucine Supplementation on Body Composition and Cardiometabolic Blood Markers During Weight Loss in Older Men-A Randomized Controlled Trial.

Background: Overweight and obesity are burgeoning health epidemics. Diets including alternate-day fasting (ADF) promote weight loss but risk significant muscle loss, posing health implications to seniors at risk of sarcopenia. Leucine, the key muscle protein synthesis (MPS) driver, effectively stimulates MPS with lower calorie intake than protein. However, the effects of body-mass-scaled protein and leucine intakes are unclear. Objectives: To evaluate body-mass-scaled leucine or protein supplementation on body composition, sarcopenic, and cardiometabolic markers in older men during ADF. Method

Weight Bias Internalization and Thinness-Oriented Body Dissatisfaction Explain the Link Between Experienced Weight Stigma and Thinness-Oriented Disordered Eating: A Four-Wave Longitudinal Study in Chinese Adolescents.

OBJECTIVES: Experienced weight stigma and weight bias internalization pose deleterious effects on physical and psychological health. Existing research largely relies on cross-sectional studies and frequently omits non-Western populations. This study examined the temporal pathways between experienced weight stigma, weight bias internalization, thinness-oriented body dissatisfaction, and thinness-oriented disordered eating in Chinese adolescents. METHOD: Participants included 10th-grade Chinese students (N = 985) enrolled in a longitudinal study between 2022 and 2024. Four waves of data were co

Detecting Distant Metastases in Prostate Cancer Using Whole-body MR Imaging Together with DWIBS (Diffusion-weighted Imaging with Background Body Signal Suppression).

Whole-body MRI (WB-MRI) has evolved over the past 2 decades as a noninvasive imaging technique for detecting distant metastases in prostate cancer. Since the introduction of diffusion-weighted imaging with background body signal suppression by Takahara et al. in 2004, its clinical use has expanded rapidly, particularly in the detection of bone metastases. WB-MRI offers whole-body coverage without radiation exposure and can be completed within approximately 30 minutes, making it suitable for repeated examinations. Consequently, it is now applied not only for metastasis detection but also for tr

Delayed feeding of a high-sucrose diet led to increased body weight by affecting the circadian rhythm of body temperature and hepatic lipid-metabolism genes in rats.

Skipping breakfast is an irregular feeding behavior, typically in young people. In our previous study, we established a 4 h-delayed feeding protocol for rats as a breakfast-skipping model and showed that the 4 h-delayed feeding of a high-fat diet led to body weight gain in rats. Excess sucrose induces metabolic syndrome and fatty liver. Recently, excess sucrose intake has received increased attention. Young people generally consume more sugar than adults do. In the present study, we investigated whether a 4 h-delayed feeding promoted high-sucrose diet-induced abnormalities in lipid metabolism,…

Whole body magnetic resonance with diffusion weighted sequence with body signal suppression compared to (18)F-FDG PET/CT in newly diagnosed lymphoma.

Lymphomas are a heterogeneous group of lymphoid malignancies, which can be broadly divided into non-Hodgkin Lymphomas (NHL) and Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) that display different patterns of biological behavior and response to treatment. Their incidence is still increasing and for this reason they require a lot of effort in scientific research. The management of both NHL and HL follows well-established guidelines based on the initial staging assessment. Therefore an accurate staging is the basis for the selection of an appropriate therapeutic approach in order to prevent over or under treatment as w
