A history is presented of a 40-year-old male patient suffering from bilateral choroidal melanoma. Both eyes were treated with 106Ru/106Rh beta-irradiation. 2 years later one eye was enucleated because of radiogenic central vein thrombosis with secondary glaucoma. Histologically the tumor cells showed radiogenic damages and there were no signs of a new tumor growth. The other eye, however, is still functioning 6 years later with a visual acuity of 1.0.

53 cases of choroidal and ciliary body melanomas have been followed for a minimum of 5 years. 26 patients had enucleation after an initial period of observation, mainly because of growth. Survival rates of these patients compared to other series treated by initial enucleation are unaffected. Small melanomas which did not grow did not cause death in this series. The results of this series thus far indicate that patient survival is not jeopardized by initial observation and that useful vision is preserved for many patients.

Study of two patients with spontaneous detachment of the choroid. In addition to detachment of the choroid, case 1 had a flat anterior chamber. Corticotherapy gave some improvement but after 3 months, surgical management was necessary. In case 2 enucleation was performed on the basis of positive echographic findings. Histological findings, the main clinical features and the therapeutical approach are discussed.

This case report suggests that calcifications in the sclera and choroid may be a feature of pseudohypoparathyroidism and shows a calcium distribution more extensive and severe than that characteristically seen in other metabolic conditions associated with calcium deposits in the eye. A supratentorial cyst in the leptomeninges of an 8-month-old infant was studied with the electron microscope. The lining of the cyst consisted of a single layer of peg-shaped epithelial cells rich in organelles and glycogen. Their free border had numerous microvilli but no cilia, and their basal portions rested on a basement membrane. Tight junctions and interdigitations were frequent between contiguous cells. Serpiginous and geographic choroiditis, one and the same disease, is characterized by episodic involvement of the pigment epithelium and choroid. Each new lesion passes through an acute phase into an atrophic and scarring one.
