Four different diets designed to be of differing quality were fed to large groups of male weanling rats. These diets were: diet C consisting of commercial Rat Chow: diet CG, the same diet diluted with 70% glucose calories, diet A, a simulated "American" diet made up of 25 widely used foods, diet AS, the same diet supplemented with small amounts of 25 vitamins and minerals. BACKGROUND: Melanoma is responsible for 75% of all skin cancer-related deaths. Lentigo maligna (LM), the most prevalent melanoma in situ (MIS), accounts for 79-83% of all MIS. Its location in the head and neck area requires that tissue be spared in the course of clearing the tumor.

Benign subcutaneous lesions are a common reason that patients visit family physicians. Lipomas are the most common of these lesions; they most often occur on the trunk and proximal extremities. We have treated 10 patients (five women and five men) with lichen sclerosus (LS), verified by histopathological studies from skin biopsies, with CO2 laser vaporization. All men studied had LS of the penile skin, of the women, three had extragenital lesions and two LS of the perineal skin. The mean follow-up time was 32 months (range 3-79 months). Fifty-four patients underwent repair of atrial septal defects through a right thoracotomy between January 1985 and December 1991. The average patient was 5.7 years old. Defects repaired included 51 secundum, 2 sinus venosus, and 1 ostium primum defect. The average bypass time was 24 minutes.
