Psychosis in Pregnancy and the Neonatal Ripple Effect.

BACKGROUND: Postpartum mood disorders including depression and psychosis are well documented conditions. However, new-onset psychosis in pregnancy is less common and less well studied with fewer reports available. CLINICAL CASE: A 36-year-old Gravida 6 Para 3113, non-English-speaking patient with no known history of mood disorder outside of pregnancy presented for her scheduled repeat cesarean delivery and was diagnosed with new-onset peripartum psychosis. She was admitted to the antepartum service and underwent an extensive workup to rule out organic causes, which all returned negative resul

Advancing vascularized composite allotransplantation: essential factors for upper extremity transplant program development.

Vascularized Composite Allotransplantation (VCA) offers a unique option to restore form and function after limb loss or facial trauma that cannot be satisfactorily accomplished through traditional prosthetics or reconstructions. Establishing a successful Upper Extremity Transplantation (UET) program requires strong leadership and a structured surgical team, and extensive interdisciplinary collaboration. We conducted a qualitative study among 12 health care professionals and patients. Informed consent was obtained per protocol, and semi-structured interviews were conducted online and recorded.

Diagnostic accuracy of an interdisciplinary tertiary center evaluation in children referred for suspected congenital anomalies of the kidney and urinary tract on fetal ultrasound - a retrospective outcome analysis.

BACKGROUND: Fetal ultrasound organ screening has become a standard of care in most high-income countries. This has resulted in increased detection of congenital abnormalities, which may lead to major uncertainty and anxiety in expectant parents, even though many of them are of minor relevance. In order to optimize prenatal counselling, we introduced an interdisciplinary approach for all pregnant women referred to our center by private obstetricians for a co-assessment of suspected relevant fetal abnormalities of the kidney or urinary tract, involving both experienced prenatal ultrasound specia

Exogenous Lipoid Pneumonia Due to Aerosolized Essential Oils: An Unusual Source of Chronic Pneumonia Mimicking Neoplasm.

A 72-year-old man presented with progressive shortness of breath and increasing consolidation. Extensive workup eventually led to the diagnosis of lipoid pneumonia, attributed to an unusual source of inhaled aerosolized essential oils in a commercially available breath freshening spray. This case illustrates the clinical and radiologic manifestations of exogenous lipoid pneumonia from an unreported entity and highlights the value of interdisciplinary discussion, detailed analysis of every imaging study, proper pathologic sample preparation, and the limited value of functional imaging in this c

A synoptic inventory of needs for research on women and tropical parasitic diseases. I. Application to urinary and intestinal schistosomiasis.

The determinants of major parasitic infections in women have never been studied systematically. Much work remains to be done before vital gaps in our knowledge will be filled. The protocol presented here categorizes the determinants of parasitic diseases, and functions as an inventory for research needs and priorities. In this paper, the synoptic inventory is tested by matching it against the scientific knowledge of schistosomiasis that is at hand. Available data and existing lacunae are discussed. We conclude that the environmental, economic, socio-cultural, nutritional, genetic, biological a

Diagnostic and treatment strategies in a memory clinic for older adults in a region with a predominantly low-income population.

BACKGROUND: Early detection and interdisciplinary management of cognitive impairment are essential, particularly in socioeconomically vulnerable populations with limited access to specialized care. To address this need, a Memory Clinic was established in 2016 within the Argentine public healthcare system in Florencio Varela. This region reflects a condition of structural poverty, where 16.2% of the population lives in poverty according to Unsatisfied Basic Needs (UBN) and over 60% of residents lack essential services. METHODS: The study included 1,204 individuals (852 women, 353 men) with a m
