Women's experiences of how their recovery process is promoted after a first myocardial infarction: Implications for cardiac rehabilitation care.

BACKGROUND: A rapid improvement in the care of myocardial infarction (MI) in the emergency services has been witnessed in recent years. There is, however, a lack of understanding of the factors involved in a successful recovery process, after the initial stages of emergency care among patients, and in particular those who are women. Both preventive and promotive perspectives should be taken into consideration for facilitating the recovery process of women after a MI. AIM: To explore how women's recovery processes are promoted after a first MI. METHODS: A qualitative content analysis was used

High workload and its connection to health-related quality of life among in-home care workers in northern Sweden during the Covid-19 pandemic.

BACKGROUND: The main aim of this study is to investigate the connection between a high workload and health-related quality of life among in-home care workers in northern Sweden during the COVID-19 pandemic. We also investigate whether social support and control at work can prevent poor health due to high workload. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was conducted during the pandemic, with 629 (response rate 33 per cent) of an estimated 1,900 in-home care workers responding. Results were compared with a nearly identical survey conducted prior to the pandemic in which 1,154 (response rate 58 per

Looking for Peace When Life Fades-Informal Caregivers' Lived Experiences During Caregiving Leave: A Qualitative Study.

BACKGROUND: In Denmark, informal caregivers can receive a Municipal Care Allowance to provide end-of-life care at home. While this policy acknowledges the value of caregiving, little is known about how it shapes caregivers' lived experiences and support needs during caregiving leave. AIM: This study explores the lived experiences of informal caregivers during caregiving leave, with a focus on existential, emotional, and relational dimensions. METHOD: Inspired by Reflective Lifeworld Research (RLR), seven narrative interviews were conducted with caregivers who had provided end-of-life care at

Palliative care in colorectal and anal malignancies from diagnosis to death.

Colorectal (CRC) and anal (AC) cancer, both lower gastrointestinal (GI) cancers vary in their presentation and treatment. Overall, the incidence of CRC has decreased. However, the incidence of CRCs in younger adults has increased over the last 5 years. The incidence of ACs has increased, too. Women are disproportionally impacted by AC which is frequently associated with human papilloma virus (HPV). Patients diagnosed with both cancers often experience multiple symptoms including pain, constipation, nausea, and vomiting. Psychosocial distress including embarrassment and shame often results from

Needs for everyday life support for brain tumour patients' relatives: systematic literature review.

The purpose of this paper is to undertake a review of the everyday lives and the need for support felt by relatives of adults with malignant cerebral glioma. Through electronic literature searches we identified studies with qualitative, quantitative or mixed method designs. Fourteen studies were identified. They indicated that a relative often assumes the caregiver's role, taking over responsibility for the patient's illness and survival, and that the relative is often overwhelmingly exhausted by this task. The ever-changing circumstances left the relatives fearful, anxious and apprehensive. T

Service motivation and its associated factors among palliative care volunteers with self-reported personality traits: a cross-sectional study in China.

BACKGROUND: Personality plays a crucial role in shaping the motivation of palliative care volunteers, a key factor in sustaining high-quality end-of-life care. However, previous studies have paid limited attention to whether factors associated with service motivation vary across different personality profiles. This study aimed to examine the associations between personality traits and service motivation and to identify factors associated with service motivation among palliative care volunteers in China. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was conducted between April and November 2025 among 326

Theory of Peaceful End of Life: Analysis and Evaluation Using the Whall Framework.

AIM: This study aims to analyse and evaluate the theory of peaceful end of life to determine its relevance and applicability in nursing research, education and practice, particularly in the areas of palliative care and end-of-life care. METHODS: We conducted a theoretical-reflexive study using specific criteria for analysing and evaluating middle-range theories as proposed by Ann Whall (2005). RESULTS: The theory clearly outlines the dying and death process, connecting key concepts and essential statements that support a peaceful end of life. It also implicitly incorporates elements of the n

A theoretical argumentation on the consequences of moral stress.

BACKGROUND: Intensive care units are characterized by heavy workloads, increasing work complexity and ethical concerns related to life-and-death decisions. In the present study, it is assumed that there is a relationship between moral stress, support and competence for nurses in intensive care units. AIM: To analyse and describe the theoretical relationship between moral stress and support on the one hand and competence on the other, in the context of intensive care. METHOD: A form of qualitative secondary analysis based on the findings from three original studies. In the analytic process a

Exploring Medication Adherence in Heart Failure From a Patient Perspective: A Qualitative Study.

BACKGROUND: Medication adherence (MA) is essential for achieving the benefits of guideline-directed medical therapy in heart failure, yet it is seldom assessed systematically in routine care. Understanding how patients experience and manage long-term medication use in everyday life is critical for designing effective, patient-centered MA support. METHODS: A qualitative study explored the experiences of patients with heart failure of factors influencing MA. Data were derived from 4 focus groups and 12 in-depth interviews with 27 participants (May 2022-November 2023) recruited from the Icelandi

Responsive emergency assessment and community team: an acute palliative medicine virtual ward with emergency department in-reach.

OBJECTIVES: More than 50% of people who die in England and Wales use an ambulance at least once in their last 3 months of life, and around 50% attend the emergency department (ED). In Bradford, an estimated 1000 patients a year are not recognised as being within the last year of life and do not access palliative care services. We aimed to improve access to palliative care and reduce hospital admissions and days spent in hospital during the last year of life. METHODS: We created the Responsive Emergency Assessment and Community Team (REACT), comprised of both ED palliative medicine in-reach an

Care and support when a baby is stillborn: A systematic review and an interpretive meta-synthesis of qualitative studies in high-income countries.

INTRODUCTION: Approximately 2 million babies are stillborn annually worldwide, most in low- and middle-income countries. Present review studies of the parental and healthcare providers' experiences of stillbirth often include a variety of settings, which may skew the findings as the available resources can vary considerably. In high-income countries, the prevalence of stillbirth is low, and support programs are often initiated immediately when a baby with no signs of life is detected. There is limited knowledge about what matters to parents, siblings, and healthcare providers when a baby is st
