Background The authors of this article became aware of significant differences in the management of two females with a rectovestibular fistula and associated vaginal agenesis. In one patient, a sigmoid colovaginoplasty was performed at the time of the posterior sagittal anorectoplasty (PSARP), and the other underwent repair of the rectovestibular fistula with a primary PSARP, but the surgeons elected to delay the timing of vaginal reconstruction. BACKGROUND: Imperforate hymen typically presents in adolescence with pain, hematocolpometra and primary amenorrhea. This case documents a previously unreported etiology for an atypical presentation with a history of recent menstruation.
CASE: A female adolescent presented with symptoms of urinary retention and leg pain. She reported a history of irregular, painful menses. Clinical examination revealed a pelvic mass and imperforate hymen. Sonography was consistent with hematocolpometra. Before a planned hymenectomy, the patient began to pass dark blood through a fistulous opening in her vulva.

BACKGROUND/AIMS: To investigate the independent importance of different types of pelvic pain on quality of life and depressive symptoms.
METHODS: A cross-sectional study was performed on patients with pelvic pain. A 10-cm visual-analogue scale (VAS) was used to investigate intensity of intermenstrual pelvic pain, dysmenorrhea or deep dyspareunia. BACKGROUND: For preserving fertility in women during chemotherapy, the character of invasive techniques, such as ovarian cryopreservation and other techniques, await further experience. Meanwhile, non-invasive techniques have attempted to minimize the gonadotoxic effect of chemotherapy, by using gonadotrophin-releasing hormone-analogues (GnRH-a) or oral contraceptives (OC).
METHODS: We performed a computerized MEDLINE search to identify articles published on fertility preservation using GnRH-a or OCs.

This study aims to evaluate the long-term effectiveness and define one of the indicators of successful outcome of endometrial resections. The study was carried out in a district general hospital setting. This was a retrospective analysis of 54 consecutive women who underwent endometrial resection over a 5-year period. Three (5.5%) complications were noted. Two were primary haemorrhage and one was a postoperative vaginal discharge. Nearly 60% of the women between 20 and 40 years of age who do not want to conceive choose oral contraceptives (OCs) for contraception in Germany. In an ongoing prospective study on the use of natural family planning in Germany, 175 women have been observed for 3,048 cycles immediately after having discontinued OCs (post-pill group). The long-term effectiveness of the copper-bearing intrauterine device (IUD) has been documented. This paper reports 12-month results from a multiyear comparative study of the Copper T (TCu) 380A and Multiload (ML) 250 IUD in Bangkok, Thailand, among 1396 women. OBJECTIVE: To compare a new triphasic oral contraceptive (OC) containing desogestrel and ethinyl estradiol (DSG/EE) with triphasic norethindrone/ethinyl estradiol (NE/EE) regarding effects on clinical efficacy, cycle control, and safety indices.

The gynecologic resectoscope, recently approved by the Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of abnormal uterine bleeding, was evaluated for its success in the treatment of women with this complaint. Through June 1990, 216 patients were treated with this modality. Midtrimester abortions and a number of cases with missed labor were induced by intrauterine instillation of 30% saline solution in 103 women. The instillation-abortion time was relatively short (mean 25.4 h) while oxytocin was not needed for the augmentation of contractions either in elective abortions or missed labor. Numerous well-documented endocrine effects of oral contraceptives (OCs) can be subdivided into two groups: (a) those relating to the hypothalamic and pituitary-ovarian system, the breast and the genital tract of the human female and (b) those related indirectly to laboratory testing of other endocrine glands. Serum LH and FSH were assayed in 31 girls with normal pre puberty, precocious puberty, premature thelarche, and premature adrenarche, aged 2 to 9 years. Adolescent girls and single women with progressive hirsutism due to polycystic ovaries present a therapeutic dilemma. Clomiphene citrate is useful only to induce ovulation and has no beneficial effect on hirsutism. Surgical wedge resection of these ovaries usually arrests progression of hirsutism and restores ovulatory menses. Infertility may be caused by gross pelvic pathology, difficulties with insemination of the cervix and uterine cavity, partial or complete occlusion of the fallopian tubes, female endocrine abnormalities or male factors.
