Weakly supervised temporal action localization with actionness-guided false positive suppression.

Weakly supervised temporal action localization aims to locate the temporal boundaries of action instances in untrimmed videos using video-level labels and assign them the corresponding action category. Generally, it is solved by a pipeline called "localization-by-classification", which finds the action instances by classifying video snippets. However, since this approach optimizes the video-level classification objective, the generated activation sequences often suffer interference from class-related scenes, resulting in a large number of false positives in the prediction results. Many existin

Visual Scene Understanding for Enhanced EMG Gesture Recognition.

This work presents a multimodal approach combining electromyography (EMG) and computer vision (CV) for robust real-time gesture recognition in a real-world setting. A context-aware framework is proposed for myoelectric prosthesis control, wherein EMG hand gesture recognition is augmented by the visual detection of objects of interest in a scene, effectively mitigating risks of false movements. By supporting EMG gesture predictions produced by a Siamese deep convolution neural network (SDCNN) with context derived from object detection using a tailored YOLO computer vision model, the system prev

Domain affiliated distilled knowledge transfer for improved convergence of Ph-negative MPN identifier.

Ph-negative Myeloproliferative Neoplasm is a rare yet dangerous disease that can turn into more severe forms of disorders later on. Clinical diagnosis of the disease exists but often requires collecting multiple types of pathologies which can be tedious and time-consuming. Meanwhile, studies on deep learning-based research are rare and often need to rely on a small amount of pathological data due to the rarity of the disease. In addition, the existing research works do not address the data scarcity issue apart from using common techniques like data augmentation, which leaves room for performan

Prediction and Elimination of Physiological Tremor During Control of Teleoperated Robot Based on Deep Learning.

Currently, teleoperated robots, with the operator's input, can fully perceive unknown factors in a complex environment and have strong environmental interaction and perception abilities. However, physiological tremors in the human hand can seriously affect the accuracy of processes that require high-precision control. Therefore, this paper proposes an EEMD-IWOA-LSTM model, which can decompose the physiological tremor of the hand into several intrinsic modal components (IMF) by using the EEMD decomposition strategy and convert the complex nonlinear and non-stationary physiological tremor curve

A Physics-Informed Low-Shot Adversarial Learning for sEMG-Based Estimation of Muscle Force and Joint Kinematics.

Muscle force and joint kinematics estimation from surface electromyography (sEMG) are essential for real-time biomechanical analysis of the dynamic interplay among neural muscle stimulation, muscle dynamics, and kinetics. Recent advances in deep neural networks (DNNs) have shown the potential to improve biomechanical analysis in a fully automated and reproducible manner. However, the small sample nature and physical interpretability of biomechanical analysis limit the applications of DNNs. This paper presents a novel physics-informed low-shot adversarial learning method for sEMG-based estimati

Portable Face-Shielding Device Based on sEMG Considering the COVID-19 Scenario.

Wearing a mask greatly reduced the possibility of infection during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, major inconveniences occur regarding patients with upper limb amputations, as they cannot independently wear masks. As a result, bacterial contamination is caused by medical staff touching the quilt when helping. Furthermore, this effect can occur with ordinary people due to accidental touch. This research aims to design an automatic and portable face shield assistive device based on surface electromyography (sEMG) signals. A concise face shield-wearing mechanism was built through 3D printing. A

A framework for immunofluorescence image augmentation and classification based on unsupervised attention mechanism.

Autoimmune encephalitis (AE) is a common neurological disorder. As a standard method for neuroautoantibody detection, pathologists use tissue matrix assays (TBA) for initial disease screening. In this study, microscopic fluorescence imaging was combined with deep learning to improve AE diagnostic accuracy. Due to the inter-class imbalance of medical data, we propose an innovative generative adversarial network supplemented with attention mechanisms to highlight key regions in images to synthesize high-quality fluorescence images. However, securing annotated medical data is both time-consuming

Comparative analysis of different artificial neural networks for predicting and optimizing in vitro seed germination and sterilization of petunia.

The process of optimizing in vitro seed sterilization and germination is a complicated task since this process is influenced by interactions of many factors (e.g., genotype, disinfectants, pH of the media, temperature, light, immersion time). This study investigated the role of various types and concentrations of disinfectants (i.e., NaOCl, Ca(ClO)2, HgCl2, H2O2, NWCN-Fe, MWCNT) as well as immersion time in successful in vitro seed sterilization and germination of petunia. Also, the utility of three artificial neural networks (ANNs) (e.g., multilayer perceptron (MLP), radial basis function (RB

Deep graph convolutional network for small-molecule retention time prediction.

The retention time (RT) is a crucial source of data for liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LCMS). A model that can accurately predict the RT for each molecule would empower filtering candidates with similar spectra but differing RT in LCMS-based molecule identification. Recent research shows that graph neural networks (GNNs) outperform traditional machine learning algorithms in RT prediction. However, all of these models use relatively shallow GNNs. This study for the first time investigates how depth affects GNNs' performance on RT prediction. The results demonstrate that a notable impr
