Malignant bowel obstruction continues to be a difficult problem for patients with abdominal and pelvic primary tumors and tumors originating in other sites. The main treatment options consist of surgery, stenting, and pharmacotherapy. Despite recent advances, the impact of available treatment modalities on symptom control, longevity, quality of life, and associated health care costs have not been evaluated rigorously. This article reviews the available data and suggests an approach to the management of this challenging patient population.

The article presents an analysis of results of different operations disuniting the gastroesophageal collector in patients with portal hypertension. Unsatisfactory long-term results of the Pazior operation widely used in CIS are known although this operation meets the requirements of emergency surgery aimed at saving the patient's life. The authors have developed an original method of disuniting the gastroesophageal collector. The method was tested in planned and emergency operations. An analysis of the preliminary results shows good perspectives of this direction.

The effectiveness of caffetin, combined analgetic drug, was estimated in treatment of acute cervicalgia and lumbar ischialgia (1 tablet 3 times daily during 10 days). Radiation therapy for abdominal recurrence of colon cancer is rarely an option due to subsequent bowel injury. Our case is a woman who underwent resection for a large retroperitoneal recurrence of caecal cancer. Tumour deposits encasing the iliac vessels had to be left behind. A silicone breast prosthesis for displacement of the abdominal content was implanted, allowing postoperative irradiation with 50 Gy. Lacrimal sac tumors are rare and mostly of epithelial origin. We conducted a clinicopathologic study of 35 cases of nonepithelial tumors of the lacrimal sac.
