Factors influencing H1N1 vaccine behavior among Manitoba Metis in Canada: a qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: During the first wave of the H1N1 influenza pandemic in 2009, Aboriginal populations in Canada experienced disproportionate rates of infection, particularly in the province of Manitoba. To protect those thought to be most at-risk, health authorities in Manitoba listed all Aboriginal people, including Metis, among those able to receive priority access to the novel vaccine when it first became available. Currently, no studies exist that have investigated the attitudes, influences, and vaccine behaviors among Aboriginal communities in Canada. This paper is the first to systematically

Perspectives of older adults with a chronic condition on functioning, social participation and health: a qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Problems with mobility, functioning and social participation make living independently difficult for frail older adults. To continue living independently, therapy adherence is a prerequisite. The causes for non-adherence among older adults are multiple and complex, which is why insight into older adults' perspectives regarding their functioning is an essential factor to increase therapy adherence. This study investigates the perspectives of older adults on their functioning, social participation and health, and the factors influencing these elements. METHODS: We conducted a qualit

From anticipation to memory: a systematic review of tourist emotional experience.

Tourist emotional experience has emerged as a central concept in understanding how individuals psychologically engage with tourism environments. It is reflects a broader shift from functional attributes to experiential and affective dimensions of travel. However, existing research tends to focus on isolated emotions or single stages of the tourist journey. It therefore lacks a dynamic perspective. This study addresses this gap through a systematic review of 211 peer-reviewed articles (2000-2025), applying the antecedents-decisions-outcomes (ADO) framework to synthesize tourist emotional experi

Why do people comply with health guidelines in a competing information environment?

The COVID-19 pandemic unfolded in parallel with an infodemic where competing information from formal and informal sources shaped protective behavior. This study conducted a secondary analysis of cross-sectional survey data from 742 U.S. adults to examine how reliance on different information channels influenced risk perceptions, socio-political beliefs, and protective intentions. Structural equation modeling revealed that reliance on formal sources, such as government websites and mainstream news, was positively associated with perceived severity, reduced conspiracy endorsement, and more liber

Cultural, familial, and technological factors influencing AAC implementation for non-speaking autistic children in the Arab community in Israel.

This study examined the cultural, familial, educational, and technological factors influencing how Arab parents of non-speaking autistic children understand and implement augmentative alternative communication (AAC) within their sociocultural context in the Arab community in Israel. Although AAC can enhance communication, participation, and emotional expression, it remains underused in many minority and multilingual communities. Using a qualitative, phenomenologically informed design and reflexive thematic analysis, the study involved in-depth guided semi-structured interviews with 20 Arab par

Barriers and facilitators to PrEP access, uptake and use in young people living in Queensland.

In January 2021, the Australian Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme expanded its eligibility for subsidised access to pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) to people under 18-years. In Australia, there is a limited understanding of how intrapersonal, interpersonal, social and structural factors impact access and use of PrEP among young people. Twenty-five semi-structured interviews were conducted with young people (16-24 years) living in Queensland, Australia. Participants identified as a range of gender (e.g., male, non-binary, trans male, trans female) and sexual identities (e.g., gay, queer, bisexual,

Parent socialization of emotion in a high-risk sample.

The Socialization of Emotion (Eisenberg, Cumberland, & Spinrad, 1998; Eisenberg, Spinrad, & Cumberland, 1998) model creates a theoretical framework for understanding parents' direct and indirect influences on children's emotional development, including the influence of parent characteristics on subsequent emotion specific parenting. Large numbers of children live in families with fathers who have alcohol problems, setting the stage for cascading risk across development. For instance, fathers' alcohol problems are a marker of risk for higher family conflict, increased parental depression and an
