We report on the presence of lobomycosis-like disease (LLD) and nodular skin disease (NSD) in a community of Guiana dolphins (Sotalia guianensis) inhabiting the biologically and chemically contaminated Paranaguá estuary (Brazil) and on their absence in the community living in the cleaner Cananéia estuary. Prevalence rates of LLD and NSD were 3.9% and 12.6%, respectively, in 103 photo-identified (PI) dolphins from the Paranaguá estuary in the period 2006-2007. Adults and calves were affected. The process of oviposition in D. reticulatus was observed and found to be a sequence of exactly coordinated, interlocking events independent of the phase of oviposition. The average period of oviposition in the investigated ticks was 31.6 days at 20 degrees C and 95% relative humidity. The number of eggs deposited on each day increased until reaching a maximum on the fifth day of oviposition and then decreased continuously. The purpose of this study was to calculate the agreement between and within observers for orthodontic judgments based on intraoral and extraoral photographs at two separate occasions in ten twin pairs. In the course of 1 year we investigated 32 patients suffering from retrobulbar neuritis, using photographs of the retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL). All photographs revealed defects of the RNFL in the area of the papillomacular bundle. These observations were compared with photographs of eyes not affected by any ophthalmological diseases. No loss of retinal nerve fiber bundles was found in any of these cases. One remarkable finding of this study was that 90% of the patients with retrobulbar neuritis also had defects in the RNFL of the contralateral eye.

This report describes a method for testing and confirming the relationship of glottography to the vibratory movements of the vocal folds. According to this method, vocal fold movement is monitored by photoglottography (PGG) and electroglottography (EGG) as photographs are taken using a 80-microsecond flash provided by a laryngostroboscope. Three cases of condylomata acuminata gigantea were treated with cryosurgery. Compared to conservative surgical treatment of condylomata acuminata gigantea, cryosurgery offers the advantage of rapid necrosis of the condylomata which are repelled without any further surgical intervention and heal without scars. Therefore we consider cryosurgery the more refined technique in treatment of condylomata acuminata gigantea. In extensive involvement, however, cryosurgical measures must be repeated.
