BACKGROUND: Xenobiotic chemicals with estrogenic activity (EA), such as bisphenol A (BPA), have been reported to have potential adverse health effects in mammals, including humans, especially in fetal and infant stages. Concerns about safety have caused many manufacturers to use alternatives to polycarbonate (PC) resins to make hard and clear, reusable, plastic products that do not leach BPA. However, no study has focused on whether such BPA-free PC-replacement products, chosen for their perceived higher safety, especially for babies, also release other chemicals that have EA.

To reduce the morbidity and mortality associated with extensive aortic arch replacement, the reconstruction technique is the most important part of the treatment. By refining the present techniques, we developed an arch-first T-graft technique. This technique provides a more reasonable arrangement of procedures, least brain ischemic time, less low-body ischemic time, and an easy way of distal aortic anastomosis. This method is performed through a traditional median sternotomy, keeps the lung free from manipulation, and avoids severe kink of major vascular grafts.

BACKGROUND: Acute lower limb ischaemia following aortic surgery is commonly termed 'trash foot'. The exact cause of the ischaemia is unknown, but it has been attributed to athero-emboli from native arteries, thrombo-emboli from any prosthetic graft or thrombosis of small vessels in the distal arterial tree.

Thirty-one salvage cases of chronically unstable previously operated knees were stabilized by an anterior cruciate ligament prosthesis of polyethyleneterephthalate (Trevira hochfest) and additional repair of concomitant lesions. The patients were followed up at yearly intervals. For the final follow-up after 4.4 years 27 patients could be evaluated clinically, radiologically and by several scores.
