OBJECTIVE: To analyse our results of the "Cardiff' (far and near) repair in incisional hernias.
DESIGN: Prospective study.
SETTING: University hospital, Varanasi, India.
SUBJECTS: 50 patients who presented with incisional hernias between January 1990 and December 1994.
INTERVENTION: Interrupted far-and-near sutures inserted after excision of the sac. The contents were pushed into the abdomen and the peritoneum sutured with non-absorbable polypropylene (prolene).

We examined the effect of interruption of pulmonary arterial flow and inadequate ventilation on the development of pulmonary infarction in rats. A left-sided colon obstruction was produced with a polypropylene sling in 65 rats. Colon resection and primary anastomosis were performed three days later. The animals were then randomly allocated to the FG (fibrin glue) group receiving sealing of the anastomosis with 0.4 ml of fibrin glue (Beriplast R), or to the NG (non-glue) group. AIM: Laparoscopic ventral mesh rectopexy (VMR) is a surgical option for internal and external rectal prolapse with low perioperative morbidity and low recurrence rates. The authors developed a new surgical procedure for use in treating pure cyclodeviation. This procedure was accomplished by a simple muscle transposition technique without tenotomy. Satisfactory postoperative results were achieved without postoperative complications. This procedure may be useful for treating cyclodeviations, with minimal risk of surgical complications, particularly anterior segment ischemia.

During secondary posterior chamber intraocular lens (PC IOL) implantation with iris fixation in the absence of capsule support, we implanted an acrylic 3-piece PC IOL through a small clear corneal incision with haptics secured in knots; there was no need for IOL capture. Sutures were placed appropriately in the iris tissue before the IOL was inserted, ensuring safety of the procedure and centration of the IOL.
