The effect of Na(+),K(+),2Cl(-) cotransport inhibitor bumetanide on action potentials and contractions of smooth muscle cells in the ureter of guinea pigs evoked by electrical stimulation was studied by the method of double sucrose bridge. Bumetanide (10-100 microM) dose-dependently suppressed action potential and contractions of smooth muscle cells induced by 1-10 microM histamine, 10 microM mesatone, 5 mM tetraethylammonium, and 100 microM sodium nitroprusside. Our findings suggest that test substances modulate Na(+),K(+),2Cl(-) cotransport in smooth muscle cells.

Three reference materials, at relatively low, middle, and high concentrations, were developed for analysis of the mass fractions of electrolytes (K, Ca, Na, Mg, Cl, and Li) in human serum. Previous studies suggested that renal H+ retention during adaptation to hypocapnia might be critically dependent upon concomitant Na and/or K excretion. Polyol-enhanced dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction has been proposed for the extraction and preconcentration of some organophosphorus pesticides from different samples. In the present study, a high volume of an aqueous phase containing a polyol (sorbitol) is prepared and then a disperser solvent along with an extraction solvent is rapidly injected into it.
