BACKGROUND: The power profile of multifocal contact lenses has been demonstrated to report important information that could be used during the fitting process. The aim of this work is to describe the power profile of a recent set of gas permeable multifocal contact lenses as a function of the pupil radius.

PURPOSE: As a result of lens design limitations, progressive addition lenses (PAL's) present a limited field of view for tasks at intermediate distances, such as with computers. To assess whether this limitation results in diminished visual performance, PAL's were compared with single-vision lenses in four different types of reading tasks in a computer workplace environment.
METHODS: Adult subjects performed four computer-based reading tasks using both single-vision lenses and PAL's at an intermediate distance of 64 cm.
RESULTS: Single-vision lenses performed significantly better than PAL's

We examined the contrast sensitivity function of presbyopic subjects wearing the Hydron Echelon diffractive bifocal contact lens. Contrast sensitivity with the Echelon lens was compared to contrast sensitivity with bifocal spectacle correction. Clinicians typically apply the distance correction to the dominant sighting eye in fitting presbyopic patients with monovision (MV) contact lenses. We evaluated the effect of this fitting strategy on distance binocular fusional ranges for 23 presbyopic subjects. This sample was composed of successful and unsuccessful MV wearers. A number of suggestions are made concerning prescribing for these individuals, especially presbyopes. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to determine whether ocular Demodex colonization leads to changes in the conjunctival flora in healthy middle-aged individuals.
METHODS: This study included 70 patients who applied to an ophthalmology clinic with a complaints of presbyopia. Two eyelash specimens from the lower eyelids of both eyes were obtained from each individual. In eyelash specimens were examined for Demodex spp. by direct wet smearing under microscopy.
