PURPOSE: The primary goal of curve correction in neuromuscular patients is to restore coronal and sagittal trunk balance, including the pelvis, to maximize sitting balance. For several years, it has been a common practice to inject polymeric cement into osteoporotic bone through specially designed, perforated pedicle screws in an effort to enhance screw stability. Therefore, we started using the association of a spinopelvic fixation with S1 pedicle screw augmentation, using bisphenol-a-glycidyl dimethacrylate composite resin in neuromuscular patients with pelvic obliquity, technique in neuromu

This study aimed to compare the fracture resistance of monolithic zirconia crowns and lithium disilicate crowns cemented on multi-unit, Ti-base and titanium copings on multi-unit abutments. 66 dental implants were embedded in auto-polymerizing acrylic resin. Three different types of abutments were used: Ti-base, multi-unit, and titanium coping abutments on multi-unit bases (n = 22/group). The specimens were subgrouped according to two different restorative materials: monolithic zirconia and lithium disilicate (n = 11/group). All of the crowns were screw-retained and the screws were tightened t

PURPOSE: Vertical root fracture (VRF) repair remains clinically challenging because of poor periodontal regenerative capacity, often leading to persistent deep periodontal pockets and impaired healing. This study aimed to evaluate periodontal tissue responses after VRF repair using 4-methacryloxyethyl trimellitate anhydride/methyl methacrylate tri-n-butylborane (4-META/MMA-TBB) resin cement (Super-Bond, SB) and nano-hydroxyapatite (naHAp)-incorporated SB (naHAp/SB) in a rat model.
METHODS: VRFs were induced in both maxillary first molars of Sprague-Dawley rats. Each fracture was repaired with

Cervical horizontal root fractures (CHRFs), although less common than mid-root fractures, present a significant clinical challenge due to their location near the alveolar crest, compromising tooth stability and complicating treatment. This paper reviews the etiology, classification, diagnosis, and current evidence-based management strategies for horizontal root fractures, and a case report on the management of CHRF is presented. Emphasis is placed on decision-making between conservative, prosthetic, orthodontic, or surgical treatment, and prognosis factors that influence long-term outcomes. Ma

INTRODUCTION: Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) has a long history of usage in implant abutments, but it has not seen much applications in tooth-supported prosthetics. The purpose of this research was to examine the clinical performance of PEEK crowns as well as the level of patient satisfaction with them. The pilot study was designed as an in vivo longitudinal examination.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Twenty patients each received a PEEK crown during the procedure. In total, 22 implants were inserted, with 11 going into the maxilla and 9 into the mandible. One operator was responsible for carrying out ea

Introduction Dental caries and traumatic injuries often lead to tooth loss in adolescents and adults, necessitating endodontic treatment and subsequent restoration. Restoring such teeth presents a challenge due to varying degrees of substance loss. After endodontic treatment, the choice of an appropriate post is crucial for long-term stability. While metal posts are sturdy, they lack aesthetics and may cause root fractures. Fiber posts, such as carbon and glass fiber, offer improved aesthetics and mechanical properties, but their comparative performance warrants investigation. Materials and me

Endodontic irrigation protocols are not only used to clean and disinfect the root canal system, but also to condition the canal wall dentine for subsequent root filling. In this study we tested whether a final irrigation step with saline solution or 80% ethanol improved root canal sealabilty by two popular sealers, an epoxy resin (AH Plus) and a hydraulic calcium silicate cement-based product (BioRoot RCS). Root canals in extracted single-rooted human teeth were instrumented and filled with a matched gutta-percha cone and sealer. During instrumentation and prior to root filling, sealer-specifi

In regions where preventive dentistry is widespread, tooth loss due to root fracture occurs approximately 10 times more frequently than that due to caries and periodontal disease. Root fracture is most likely to occur in non-vital teeth, where the dental pulp has been removed, often through a procedure known as pulpectomy. However, super minimally invasive pulp (SMIP) therapy has recently been reported as a novel treatment approach for pulpitis of any degree. In this study, SMIP therapy was performed to preserve the vitality of teeth in two patients with severe pulpitis. Case one involved a 35

OBJECTIVE: Resin-based materials are gaining popularity in implant dentistry due to their shock absorption capacity. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the fracture strength and failure mode of resilient materials for both crowns and abutments and compare them to the most widely used materials in different combinations after subjection to long-term fatigue loading.
METHODS: Forty-eight cement-retained implant-restorations were assembled on titanium implants. Identical custom-made CAD/CAM abutments were milled out of 3 different materials (n = 16); T: titanium, Z: zirconia and P:

Dental interfaces are subject to mixed-mode loading. This study provides practical guidance for determining interfacial fracture toughness of dental ceramic systems. We address interfacial fracture of a composite resin cement sandwiched between two dental ceramic materials. Emphasis is placed on sandwich disc specimens with cracks originating from elliptical-shaped flaws near the center, for which analytical fracture mechanics methods fail to predict. The interaction integral method is used to provide accurate finite element solutions for cracks with elliptical-shaped flaws in a Brazil-nut-san

INTRODUCTION: This prospective study evaluated the outcome of a combination of nonsurgical endodontic (NSET) and vital pulp therapy (VPT) for the management of mature permanent mandibular molar teeth with symptomatic irreversible pulpitis (SIP) and apical periodontitis (AP).
METHODS: Institutional ethical clearance was obtained. Mandibular molar teeth (N = 60) with a definitive diagnosis of SIP and AP with a radiographic periapical index score (PAI) of ≥3 in either 1 of the roots (mesial or distal) were included. Block randomization was used for allocation. In the NSET group (n = 30), single-

BACKGROUND: Tumor-associated sacral insufficiency fractures (SIF) present a significant clinical challenge. As survival increases for many malignancies, sacral fractures associated with metastases, sacral or extended pelvic radiation, and paraneoplastic osteoporosis are increasingly common and yet remain difficult to treat in the setting of the potentially significant morbidity of open sacral surgery.
OBJECTIVE: To describe our prospective experience with sacroplasty for tumor-associated lesions, including the largest series to date of radiation-induced SIF.
METHODS: Twenty-five patients wit

The aim of this study was to investigate the response of human pulp tissue to a dentin bonding agent, Scotchbond Multi-Purpose Plus (SMPP), in exposed class V cavities. Sixteen human premolar teeth were mechanically exposed. Ten pulps were capped with SMPP and six teeth were capped with Dycal. The cavities were filled with a composite. After 40 days, the teeth were extracted and processed for histologic evaluation. Of the 10 teeth capped with SMPP, eight showed moderate chronic inflammation, one was severely inflamed, and one pulp had no to slight inflammation. None of the teeth capped with SM
