We describe two patients with uncommon causes of iatrogenic injuries and review the anatomy, presentation, possibilities of repair, and results. The incidence of such nerve injuries during lymph node biopsies is 3%-10%, but the diagnosis is often delayed. Symptoms are shoulder pain and inability to abduct the arm beyond the horizontal plane. Surgical repair may improve function and pain and should be performed early, preferably within six months, but prevention of nerve injury is most important.

CONTEXT: The prevalence of shoulder pain among competitive swimmers is high, but no guidelines exist to reduce shoulder injuries. Elucidating differences between swimmers with and without shoulder pain can serve as a basis for the development of a program to prevent shoulder injury that might lead to pain and dysfunction.
OBJECTIVE: To determine whether physical characteristics, exposure, or training variables differ between swimmers with and without shoulder pain or disability.
DESIGN: Cross-sectional study.
SETTING: Multisite swimming centers.

Shoulder pain is a common complaint among gym-going individuals, particularly those engaged in upper limb workouts. The rotator cuff, comprising four muscles, plays a crucial role in stabilizing the shoulder joint during movements and supporting its mobility. Imbalances or weaknesses in these muscles can lead to shoulder injuries, affecting performance and overall well-being. The main aim of this review is to explore the benefit of one of the approaches in preventing shoulder pain and improving performance among gym-going individuals. Specific rotator cuff stretching exercises target the entir…

Complications regarding inferior shoulder dislocations (ISD) are predominately rotator cuff injuries, neuropathies, and vascular insults. To our knowledge, there are no studies regarding the delayed appearance of neuropathies with inferior shoulder dislocations. A 32-year-old previously healthy male presented with an inferior shoulder dislocation that required open reduction and internal fixation after failed attempts at closed reductions in the emergency room and operating room. At the time of discharge, the patient had no neurologic complaints, which continued to the two-week follow-up appoi

This article describes a one-degree-of-freedom haptic device that can be applied to perform three different exercises for shoulder rehabilitation. The device is based on a force control architecture and an adaptive speed PI controller. It is a portable equipment that is easy to use for any patient, and was optimized for rehabilitating external rotation movements of the shoulder in patients in whom this was limited by muscle-skeletal injuries. The sample consisted of 12 shoulder rehabilitation sessions with different shoulder pathologies that limited their range of shoulder mobility. The mean a

BACKGROUND: The term shoulder instability refers to a variety of mechanisms and clinical presentations. One of the common pathologies of throwing disorders is internal impingement with anterior instability. Most throwing athletes with symptomatic internal impingement with anterior instability exhibit positive apprehension and relocation test results, whereas those with recurrent anterior shoulder instability display positive apprehension test results. While the glenoid labrum-inferior glenohumeral ligament complex is a significant critical stabilizer for the prevention of anterior shoulder dis

BACKGROUND: Emphasis on enhancing baseball pitch velocity has become popular, especially through weighted-ball throwing. However, little is known about the physical effects or safety of these programs. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of training with weighted baseballs on pitch velocity, passive range of motion (PROM), muscle strength, elbow torque, and injury rates.
HYPOTHESIS: A 6-week weighted ball training program would result in a change in pitching biomechanical and physical characteristics.
STUDY DESIGN: Randomized controlled trial.
LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Level 1.

The shoulder joint is a commonly dislocated joint in the human body. Shoulder dislocations are commonly associated with fractures of greater tuberosity and neurovascular injuries and are rarely associated with venous complications like deep vein thrombosis (DVT). Ten percent of all venous thrombosis is related to upper extremity venous thrombosis (UE-VT). Severe UE-VT cases are associated with endovenous catheters. Moreover, UE-VT often occurs in specific medical conditions, including hematological malignancy, solid neoplasia, and progressive infection. UE-VT can lead to serious complications

Shoulder dislocation is one of the typical upper extremity injuries in skiing, first following a violent accident but quite frequently recurring without new trauma. This article discusses the retrotorsional angle of the humerus as an etiological factor in the occurrence of an initial dislocation and as a triggering element for its recurrence. It focuses on the consequences to be drawn for the surgical treatment of recurrent shoulder dislocation. A technique for exact determination of the humeral angle of retrotorsion by X-ray is presented. In patients with recurrent anterior dislocations of th

Shoulder pain is among the most frequent musculoskeletal complaints and remains a significant therapeutic challenge in clinical practice. A wide spectrum of conditions may contribute to this symptom, including rotator cuff tendinosis or tears, calcific tendinopathy, labral or capsuloligamentous injuries and degenerative changes of the glenohumeral joint. Accurate diagnosis requires an integrated approach that combines clinical history, physical examination, and imaging. However, variability in examination technique and interpretation often limits the reliability of clinical assessment alone. D

Throwing events such as discus, shot put, and javelin involve repetitive and explosive overhead activities in a short period, which increases the risk of upper extremity injuries. Furthermore, the available data on seated throwers are inadequately documented. Thus, this study aims to (1) describe the muscle strength profiles of shoulder external and internal rotators and the elbow flexors and extensors in seated throwers, and (2) identify the differences in muscle strength between seated throwers competing at international levels and those at national levels. Twenty-one seated throwers partici

INTRODUCTION: In the Netherlands, low-risk pregnancies are managed by midwives in primary care. Despite strict definitions of low risk, obstetric complications can occur. Midwives seldom encounter uncommon labour complications, but are sufficiently trained to manage these. We assessed neonatal and maternal outcome after management of shoulder dystocia in primary midwifery care.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this 2-year prospective cohort study from April 2008 to April 2010, primary-care midwives, who participated in an obstetric emergency course, reported all obstetric complications. Main outcome
