Spleen T lymphocytes from mice undergoing acute infection with lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus (LCM virus) were negatively selected by treatment with anti-Lyt or anti-L3T4 antibodies and complement. The subsets thus obtained were tested for their potential to lyse LCM virus-infected target cells in vitro and to confer on infected syngeneic recipients the ability to eliminate virus rapidly from their spleens. Lymphoma is a common cancer of dogs that frequently is treated with chemotherapy or radiation therapy. BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: During the last few years, there have been several studies on T cell subsets in polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) and giant cell arteritis (GCA), with conflicting results. Whereas some authors have found normal values of circulating CD8+ T cells, others have found a decreased number. Furthermore, in some studies, the level of CD8+ cells was found to be related to disease activity, and it has been proposed that a decrease of CD8+ T cells be used as a diagnostic criterion for PMR. Three patients with severe, bilateral, progressive Mooren's ulcers, unresponsive to medical and surgical therapy, were treated with cyclosporin A. All three responded rapidly to the drug and there has been no recurrence of the Mooren's ulcers since (average follow-up 14 months). Peripheral blood T lymphocyte subsets were estimated prior to and during treatment. No significant abnormalities were found initially. Suppressor cells increased on treatment, and a corresponding drop of the helper/suppressor cell ratio occurred in two patients.

Pristane induced arthritis (PIA), a seropositive experimental disease model in mice, was used to investigate the influence of immunotherapy with monoclonal antibodies against lymphocyte subsets.
