Study protocol: how does parental stress measured by clinical scales and voice acoustic stress markers predict children's response to PTSD trauma-focused therapies?

INTRODUCTION: Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms in youth are influenced by parental anxiety and stress. When parents have high levels of stress or have developed PTSD themselves, children tend to show more anxiety symptoms. Parental stress can affect the severity of children's PTSD and lower the success of recovery. However, the influence of parental stress on the effectiveness of trauma-focused therapies (eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing and cognitive behavioural therapy) has not yet been investigated to our knowledge. Hence, we will measure parental stress (using bo

Cocaine- and amphetamine-regulated transcript peptide (CART) in the central nucleus of amygdala potentiates behavioral and hormonal responses of the rat exposed to its predator.

Since cocaine- and amphetamine-regulated transcript peptide (CART) regulates anxiety and stress in amygdala, we hypothesized that the peptide may also process negative psychological experience like fear. During acute exposure to a cat, the rat showed freezing behavior and subsequently, profound signs of anxiety in social interaction test, and elevated serum cortisol concentration. While these behavioral effects were potentiated by the intracerebroventricular (icv) and intra-central nucleus of amygdala (intra-CeA) administration of CART peptide, they were blocked by CART antibody. On the other

The correlation of vaginal flora and anxiety in perimenopause women: a prospective study.

BACKGROUND: Perimenopausal women experience significant mental changes that affect their health and lives. Emerging evidence suggests that alterations in the vaginal microbiota may be associated with mental health symptoms through a potential vagina-brain axis. Here, we aimed to investigate the relation between anxiety in perimenopausal women and the changes in vaginal flora and identify the related factors of anxiety. METHODS: A total of 120 perimenopausal women were included. Anxiety was diagnosed using a self-rating anxiety scale. Their sleep and life quality were evaluated using the Pitts

Night running and internet addiction among university students: a serial mediation model of stress/anxiety and rumination.

BACKGROUND: Internet addiction (IA) is prevalent among university students and is often linked to negative affect and maladaptive cognition. Time-specific physical activity such as night running may relate to IA, but the psychological mechanisms remain underexplored. OBJECTIVE: This study examined the association between night running and IA and tested whether stress/anxiety and rumination mediate this relationship in a serial pathway. METHODS: A cross-sectional online survey was conducted among 1,138 undergraduates from two universities in Guangdong Province, China. Night running frequency

Depression, somatization and anxiety in female patients with temporomandibular disorders (TMD).

The aim of this research was to determine the possible differences in degrees of depression, somatization and anxiety between the acute and chronic female patients with temporomandibular disorders (TMD), and whether these differences exist in healthy female patients. Ninety female patients were involved in this research; 60 of them were TMD patients of the Dental Polyclinic, while other 30 females came for a routine recall visit and had no problem related to TMD. Patients were aged 22 to 67 years, the average age being 38.5 +/- 12 years. All patients were asked to fill in the RDC/TMD protocol

Eating Disorder Risk Factors and the Impact of Obesity in Patients With Psoriasis.

Current evidence indicates that obesity may initiate psoriasis or worsen existing disease. Various factors contribute to the development of obesity, including eating disorders (EDs). The aim of this study was to screen for and identify factors associated with EDs in patients with psoriasis and their impact on the development of obesity in this population. Demographic information including body mass index (BMI), Eating Attitude Test (EAT-26), Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI), Attitude Scale for Healthy Nutrition (ASHN), and Depression Anxiety Stress Scale 21 (DASS-21) scores were statistic

The effects of shyness on love styles and relationship status.

As prior research has indicated that shyness is associated with social anxiety, inhibition, and generally less fulfilling social relationships, this study examined the possible affect of shyness on one specific type of relationship, romantic love. Participants (N = 124) completed the Revised Cheek-Buss Shyness Scale and the Love Attitudes Scale, and provided basic information about themselves and their current romantic relationships. A chi-square test showed no significant association between high or low Shyness scores and whether participants were currently involved in a romantic relationship

[Alexithymia and psychopathology in a clinical sample of obese subjects].

The study examines the relationship between obesity and alexithymia, focusing on relations with the level of psychopathology. The Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS) was performed in 200 women (100 obese subjects and 100 normal weight individuals). In obese subjects TAS was accompanied by a series of tests including the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI), Ipat Anxiety Scale (ASQ) and the Eating Attitude Test (EAT). The results obtained show that from a psychopathological point of view obesity cannot be considered a single phenomenon, and that it is possible to identify at least 3 g

The effectiveness of metacognitive therapy on emotional distress tolerance and medication adherence in patients with generalized anxiety disorder: a pilot randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) is one of the most common mental disorders. Current treatments often emphasize symptom reduction while neglecting key factors such as emotional distress tolerance and medication adherence. Metacognitive Therapy (MCT) provides a distinct approach by targeting maladaptive metacognitive beliefs that sustain anxiety and worry. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of MCT in improving emotional distress tolerance and medication adherence among patients with GAD, with the goal of facilitating its clinical use by psychologists and psychiatrists.

Distribution of social anxiety symptoms and associated factors among undergraduate medical students in Mogadishu, Somalia: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Social anxiety is a common and debilitating psychiatric condition marked by an intense fear of negative evaluation in social situations, leading to significant impairments in occupational, academic, and daily functioning. Among medical students, this fear can significantly impede essential interpersonal interactions and academic performance. Despite its clinical significance, social anxiety remains under-researched in low-resource contexts, including Somalia. The effect of a parental preparation video (Take5) on child and parent anxiety during anaesthetic induction: a protocol for a randomised controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Children undergoing anaesthetic induction experience peri-operative anxiety associated with negative outcomes including emergence delirium, short- and long-term maladaptive behaviour and increased postoperative analgesic requirements. This stems from children's limited ability to communicate, cope, and regulate intense emotions, leading to high dependency on parental emotional regulation. Previous interventions including video modelling, education and distraction techniques before and during anaesthetic induction have demonstrated significant reduction of anxiety levels. No existin

Depression, anxiety, and quality of life in paroxysmal kinesigenic dyskinesia patients.

BACKGROUND: Paroxysmal kinesigenic dyskinesia (PKD) is a rare movement disorder characterized by recurrent dystonic or choreoathetoid attacks triggered by sudden voluntary movements. Under the condition of psychological burden, some patients' attacks may get worsened with longer duration and higher frequency. This study aimed to assess nonmotor symptoms and quality of life of patients with PKD in a large population. METHODS: We performed a cross-sectional survey in 165 primary PKD patients from August 2008 to October 2016 in Rui Jin Hospital, using Symptom Check List-90-Revised (SCL-90-R), Wo
