Reactions of the dental pulp to microbial provocation of calcium hydroxide treated dentin.

The purpose of the present study was to determine whether treatment of dentin with calcium hydroxide reduces pulp irritation caused by microbial products. The experiment was carried out in three young monkeys. Cavities were prepared on the buccal tooth surface deep into dentin of 62 teeth. Calcium hydroxyde mixed with distilled water was placed in one group of cavities. A set of control cavities received treatment with saline soaked filter-paper discs. The calcium hydroxide dressing and the saline discs were separated from the oral cavity for a period of 14 or 60 d by a Teflon disc and a layer

Periradicular repair after single- and two-visit root canal treatments using ultrasonic irrigant activation and calcium hydroxide dressing of teeth with apical periodontitis: study protocol for randomized controlled trials.

BACKGROUND: In certain clinical situations, root canal treatment in teeth with apical periodontitis is performed in multiple visits, with the use of intracanal dressing between visits, aiming to reduce microorganisms and their by-products of the root canal system prior to filling. However, in recent years, discussions have been growing about the real need for the use of intracanal dressing in these cases. The use of ultrasonic activation of the auxiliary chemical substance has increased the potential for decontamination promoted during the chemomechanical preparation of the root canal. Thus, t

Comparative Evaluation of Fracture Resistance of Teeth With Internal Resorption Cavities Repaired With Three Different Materials.

Introduction  Internal root resorption is a relatively uncommon pathological condition characterized by progressive loss of intraradicular dentin due to clastic cell activity. If left untreated, continued resorption weakens the remaining tooth structure, predisposing the tooth to perforation and fracture. Following endodontic management, repair of the resorptive defect using a material that provides both an effective seal and reinforcement of the weakened root is essential. Although mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) is widely regarded as the material of choice because of its excellent biocompat

Effect of Liners on Pulpal Outcome After Partial Caries Removal in Permanent Teeth: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Partial caries removal reduces the risk of pulp exposure while preserving the tooth structure that is otherwise unnecessarily lost during the cavity preparation. Liners are applied on the dentinal floors to induce the formation of tertiary dentin that effectively blocks the stimuli from reaching the pulp. The present systematic review was conducted to evaluate the effect of liners on pulp vitality after partial caries removal in permanent teeth. This systematic review followed the resources of evidence-based medicine such as the Cochrane Handbook and was conducted as per PRISMA guidelines. The
