A 3-year-old boy presented with persistent abdominal pain, hematuria and facial pallor with progressive anemia. A computed tomography scan showed a massive intraperitoneal hemorrhage and tumor mass in the bladder. Histological examinations of the resected tumor revealed findings of pseudosarcomatous myofibroblastic tumor (PMT). The clinico-pathological features of this case warn us that PMT can cause acute abdomen syndrome with massive intraperitoneal hemorrhage.

PATIENTS AND METHODS: A retrospective study was carried out on 24 consecutive bladder-drained pancreatic transplants in 24 patients with type I insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, 22 with simultaneous kidney transplants and two of pancreas alone, over a period of 53 months.

BACKGROUND: Carcinoma in situ (CIS) of the urinary bladder is a neoplasm of uncertain biologic behavior. It rarely occurs as the primary disease and exists most often in association with high grade, invasive tumors. The unfavorable prognosis ascribed to CIS may not be due to tumor-related factors but to low host resistance or to host-tumor relationships established for previous or co-incident invasive cancers. Ureteral obstruction is a frequent complication of transitional cell carcinoma (TCC), known as a poor prognostic sign and indicative of advanced disease. We investigated retrospectively the medical records of 122 consecutive patients who suffered from invasive TCC of the urinary bladder during a 6-year period. A case of pseudotumor of the urinary bladder secondary to intramural lithiasis is reported. Computer tomography, cystoscopy of the mass and cytology suggested a malignant tumor. A transurethral biopsy from the tumor was therefore performed, but it showed tissue covered with normal transitional cell epithelium but no signs of malignancy. Pseudotumoral edema of the bladder is easily mistaken for a malignant neoplasm (1, 2, 3).

Bacteriuria and associated renal damage is common in children with a neurogenic bladder, but the pathogenesis of urinary tract infection (UTI) is undefined. We report a case of benign polyp with prostatic-type epithelium of the urinary bladder. A 58-year-old male presented with gross hematuria. Cystoscopic examination revealed a 2-mm polypoid lesion in the mid trigone. Immunohistochemical demonstration of prostatic acid phosphatase and prostatic specific antigen in the urothelial cells as well as the prostatic-type epithelial cells suggested the histogenesis of this polyp to be metaplasia of the urothelium.
