Veterans Health Administration Pain Management Quality Improvement in a Post-Commission on Accreditation for Rehabilitation Facilities Era.

Tertiary interdisciplinary pain rehabilitation programs (IPRPs) provide integrated, comprehensive pain rehabilitation using an evidence-based biopsychosocial approach delivered by teams offering multi-modal care. A 2009 Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Directive mandated implementation of Commission on Accreditation for Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) accredited IPRPs in each Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) service network. Commission on Accreditation for Rehabilitation Facilities accreditation included regular program surveys to reinforce continuous quality and improvement standards.

JCI Accreditation and Outpatient Surgery: A Scoping Review of Evidence on Healthcare Quality, Risk Management, and Policy.

Background: The global healthcare landscape is being increasingly shaped by two pivotal trends: the adoption of international quality frameworks, such as Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation, and the strategic shift towards resource-efficient models like outpatient surgery. While both areas have been extensively addressed in the healthcare literature, empirical evidence concerning their intersection remains limited. This scoping review aimed to systematically map the available literature, identify critical evidence gaps at the intersection of JCI accreditation and outpatient surg

Qualitative evaluation of an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-approved online hospice and palliative medicine fellowship program.

PURPOSE: In 2020, the University of Colorado School of Medicine launched the Community Hospice and Palliative Medicine (CHPM) Fellowship, a part-time, innovative, online fellowship for midcareer physicians. The 3- to 4-year specialty training program, which includes completing a master of science in palliative care, was created to address the increasing need for palliative care physicians in communities with underdeveloped hospice and palliative medicine resources. This model enables fellows to remain in their communities and clinical practices while completing training leading to board certif

Cardiac rehabilitation programme accreditation and certification: Comparing international practices, mapping standards, benchmarks, and future directions - A scoping review.

AIMS: Programme accreditation and certification are key mechanisms for standardising, assuring, and continuously improving the quality of cardiac rehabilitation. Comparative evidence on existing accreditation and certification schemes remains limited. This review compared these schemes to identify key characteristics, standards, convergences, divergences, implementation, and gaps to inform future quality improvement directions. METHODS: A scoping review following PRISMA-ScR guidelines was conducted searching four databases, grey literature and accreditation bodies' websites (August-September

Developing an Accreditation Framework for Postgraduate Medical Speciality Education in Low-Resource Settings: A Qualitative Study from Sudan.

INTRODUCTION: Postgraduate medical education (PGME) is essential for producing competent specialists and strengthening health systems. Although Sudan has an established undergraduate accreditation system through the Sudan Medical Council (SMC), PGME accreditation under the Sudan Medical Specialization Board (SMSB) remains fragmented and inconsistently aligned with international standards. This study assessed the status of PGME accreditation in Sudan, examined the SMSB experience, and developed a framework to strengthen accreditation practices. METHODS: A qualitative case study design was empl

Concurrent surgical management of achalasia and obesity: a Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program analysis.

BACKGROUND: The safety of concurrent Heller myotomy (HM) and metabolic bariatric surgery (MBS) remains underexplored, with existing literature limited to case reports. This study aimed to evaluate the 30-day postoperative outcomes of concurrent HM-MBS vs MBS alone. METHODS: A retrospective analysis of the 2020-2023 Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program database was conducted. HM-MBS cases were identified. To minimize confounding, propensity score matching (1:3) was performed using 25 preoperative characteristics. The 30-day postoperative outcomes and co

Comparative analysis of sleeve conversions of the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program 2020 Database.

BACKGROUND: Although the sleeve gastrectomy (SG) is the dominant bariatric procedure, studies have shown conversion rates of up to 30%. These conversions are generally for weight regain (WR), insufficient weight loss (IWL) or gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Before 2020, details on why conversions were being performed were not collected in the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP) Participant Use Data File (PUF). Now, the indication for sleeve conversion is noted in the PUF, allowing identification and reporting sleeve conversion reasons

Heart Failure Association of the European Society of Cardiology Quality of Care Centres Programme: design and accreditation document.

Heart failure (HF) is the major contributor to cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Given its rising prevalence, the costs of HF care can be expected to increase. Multidisciplinary management of HF can improve quality of care and survival. However, specialized HF programmes are not widely available in most European countries. These circumstances underlie the suggestion of the Heart Failure Association (HFA) of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) for the development of quality of care centres (QCCs). These are defined as health care institutions that provide multidisciplinary HF managem

Improving antibiotic prescribing quality by an intervention embedded in the primary care practice accreditation: the ARTI4 randomized trial.

OBJECTIVES: Antibiotic overprescribing is a significant problem. Multifaceted interventions improved antibiotic prescribing quality; their implementation and sustainability, however, have proved difficult. We analysed the effectiveness of an intervention embedded in the quality cycle of primary care practice accreditation on quantity and quality of antibiotic prescribing for respiratory tract and ear infections (RTIs). METHODS: This was a pragmatic, cluster-randomized intervention trial in 88 Dutch primary care practices. The intervention (physician education and audit/feedback on antibiotic

Evaluating the safety of intragastric balloon: An analysis of the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program.

BACKGROUND: Laparoscopic bariatric surgery (LBS) is effective for severe obesity but is invasive and costly. Intragastric balloons (IGBs) are increasingly popular as an alternative to LBS with modest short-term weight loss. However, IGBs are associated with complications and a comparison of the safety of IGB to LBS is warranted. OBJECTIVES: The objective of this study was to compare the safety profile of IGB with LBS through analysis of the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP) database. SETTING: The MBSAQIP collects data from 791 bariatric s

Standards, regulations and accreditation for registries involved in the worldwide exchange of hematopoietic stem cell donors and products.

The World Marrow Donor Association (WMDA) is working closely with other international organizations working in cellular therapy such as the Worldwide Network for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (WBMT) to develop and maintain global recommendations and requirements for a standardized practice. WMDA launched its registry accreditation program in September 2003. Since then, 17 of the 71 hematopoietic stem cell donor registries worldwide have been accredited. These accredited registries list over 80% of the hematopoietic stem cell donors and umbilical cord blood units listed in the database of BM

The Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program's role in the evolution of quality in metabolic and bariatric surgery.

The growing prevalence of obesity has driven the widespread adoption of metabolic and bariatric surgery, recognized as the most effective treatment for this population. To improve the quality of care, several countries have established metabolic and bariatric surgery registries to track outcomes, guide performance benchmarks, and advocate for changes and healthcare improvements. In the United States, collaboration between the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery led to the creation of the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Qua

Sigma metric and Quality Goal Index assessment of hemoglobin A1c analytical performance in an ambulatory accredited laboratory.

INTRODUCTION: Hemoglobin A1c has a stringent total allowable error (TEa), making high Six Sigma values difficult to attain. In addition, data from ambulatory accredited laboratories are sparse. METHODS: Internal quality control (QC) data for 2 levels were collected over 8 months on a single-lot Bio-Rad D-10 high-performance liquid chromatography analyzer. Long-term imprecision was the coefficient of variation (s/x¯) × 100 (CV) of all internal QC results combined, capturing between-month variation. Bias was derived from external quality assessment (EQAS) and assigned QC targets, applied as abs

Effectiveness of chest pain center accreditation on the hospital outcome of acute aortic dissection: a nationwide study in China.

BACKGROUND: The National Chest Pain Center Program (NCPCP) is a nationwide, quality enhancement program aimed at raising the standard of care for patients experiencing acute chest pain in China. The benefits of chest pain center (CPC) accreditation on acute coronary syndrome have been demonstrated. However, there is no evidence to indicate whether CPC accreditation improves outcomes for patients with acute aortic dissection (AAD). METHODS: We conducted a retrospective observational study of patients with AAD from 1671 hospitals in China, using data from the NCPCP spanning the period from Janu
