AIM: To develop and examine the effectiveness of an advanced practice nurse-led telehealth rehabilitative programme as a transitional nursing therapeutic on readmission rates and health-related outcomes among patients with acute myocardial infarction postdischarge.
BACKGROUND: Patients suffering from acute myocardial infarction are experiencing an increasing trend of frequent readmissions. This implicates both the effectiveness of healthcare services and patient's quality of life. Advanced Practice Nurse-led telehealth rehabilitative programme has yet to be explored as a strategy to minimize

BACKGROUND: Residents in long-term care settings have complex medical and functional needs, and the early period following facility admission represents a vulnerable transitional phase. Registered nurses are often not available on-site in institutional long-term care settings, in Korea and globally, limiting the capacity to respond to acute challenges. In 2014, Korea expanded home-visit advanced practice nurse visiting services to cover long-term care residents, enabling advanced practice nurses to deliver skilled nursing interventions within institutional long-term care settings.
OBJECTIVE:

AIM: This study aimed to explore latent categories of nursing and medical students' knowledge, attitude and practice intentions regarding advance care planning (ACP), and to identify the factors influencing these categories. It sought to provide an evidence base for developing personalized, precision-targeted advance care planning educational interventions.
METHODS: From October to December 2023, a stratified cluster random sampling method was employed to select a sample of 1006 undergraduate students in clinical medicine and nursing (Years 1-4) from a medical university in eastern China. A t

PURPOSE: To evaluate the effectiveness of the advanced-practice-nurse-led postoperative self-management enhancement programme (N-PSMEP) on self-efficacy, self-management ability, and postoperative recovery outcomes after lung cancer surgery.
METHODS: In this randomised controlled trial, 78 patients with a clinical diagnosis of lung cancer were randomised to the intervention or control group (n = 39 each). Two participants (one per group) whose postoperative histopathological examination did not confirm lung cancer were excluded from the eligible analysis population in accordance with the pres

This study examines the intention of advanced practice nurses (APNs) to utilize health optimization programs (HOPs) for addressing clients' chronic disease in various work settings (i.e., nursing homes or other care settings). A paper-based survey was administered to 270 APNs at a continuing education conference to determine their intentions to refer patients to HOPs for chronic disease management. APNs working in nursing homes were 0.23 times as likely to utilize HOPs for management of their patients' chronic disease compared with their counterparts working in other care settings (odds ratio

The purpose of this article is to discuss wound assessment and management for advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs). Skin anatomy is reviewed, and the stages and methods of wound healing are also addressed. Common types of wound/skin disruption are listed. The importance of a thorough and meticulous history and physical exam outlining the appropriate initial evaluation of wounds and including the identification of potential complications such as infection, retained foreign bodies, and neurovascular injuries are also considered. Clinical decision-making and the formulation of differential

The importance of advanced practice nurses (APNs) in improving emergency care for patients with Alzheimer's disease is a reality. APNs play a crucial role by providing advanced clinical skills and an approach centered on Naomi Feil's Validation®, a non-pharmacological therapy. This method involves empathetic acknowledgment and affirmation of patients' emotions and experiences, which helps build a relationship of trust and address their specific needs. By collaborating with other healthcare professionals, APNs ensure high-quality care tailored to the emergency situations faced by vulnerable pat

Advanced practice registered nurses (APRN) who practice as solo hospitalists in critical access hospitals are often underrecognized in their role in providing palliative and end-of-life care. Palliative and hospice care specialty services are often not readily available for consultations in a timely manner, especially in highly remote areas of the country. These hospitalists routinely work without an option for palliative care consultations, ethics committees, or structured advance care planning processes. These hospitalists must simultaneously manage admissions, discharges, inpatient deterior

Arteriopathies are a group of vascular disorders that encompass arterial dissection, aneurysm, and tortuosity that may or may not have an identifiable cause. Given the varied clinical presentations and underlying disorders of patients with arteriopathies, clinicians must develop a wide range of tools to care for these patients, including a focused history, physical examination, diagnostic imaging, medical and surgical therapies, genetic testing, and education. The vascular medicine clinic is one setting that can provide comprehensive care for this patient population, and vascular medicine adva

Supporting people placed under house arrest is a contemporary challenge. Between popular demand for risk control, judicial demand for recidivism prevention and hospital prerogatives, the articulation between care providers is often perilous. The advanced practice nurse plays a key role in the transition from inside to outside.

PURPOSE: This article reviews autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) to promote early recognition, diagnosis, and referral for nurse practitioners (NPs) encountering this rare condition.
DATA SOURCES: Selected research and clinical articles from Medline, PubMed, and CINAHL.
CONCLUSIONS: AIH is a rare condition of unknown etiology affecting women 3.6 times more than men and may result in liver failure, subsequent liver transplantation, and death. Untreated AH is associated with up to 80% mortality. Collaboration and referral to gastroenterologists, hepatologists, and other specialists are needed to impro

Transverse myelitis (TM) is a neurological syndrome involving destruction of the anterior and posterior (transverse) segments of the spinal cord. The objective of this article is to educate emergency nurses and nurse practitioners about how to recognize, diagnose, and treat TM. A comparison of the neurological findings of TM and Guillain-Barré syndrome is presented. In addition, this article will include an algorithm and specific diagnostic criteria to assist in the diagnosis of acute idiopathic TM.

BACKGROUND: People with black and brown skin tones are at risk of delayed or missed diagnoses due to variations in clinical presentation and limited clinician confidence.
AIM: To evaluate whether a targeted teaching session improves confidence among advanced clinical practice (ACP) students in assessing black and brown skin.
METHODS: A small-scale action research study was conducted within a postgraduate MSc Advanced Practice programme. A 60-minute online teaching session was delivered to ACP students, incorporating case-based learning and clinical imagery. Participants completed pre-, post-
