Traumatic pericallosal artery aneurysm.

We present the case of a 33-year-old man who sustained head trauma in a motor vehicle accident. He remained unconscious from the time of the accident until his death 10 days later. He was shown to have severe hemorrhage that destroyed the corpus callosum from genu to splenium in association with a pericallosal artery aneurysm (distal anterior cerebral artery aneurysm). In addition, hemorrhages typical of traumatic hemorrhages were found elsewhere in the brain. Clinically, he was considered to have suffered the rupture of a berry pericallosal artery aneurysm, which caused the motor vehicle acci…

[Intracranial aneurysm in Taiwan].

We reviewed the epidemiologic and clinical features of ruptured intracranial aneurysms based on the available data in the literature reported in Taiwan. Among 28,763 stroke patients registered by members of the Neurological Society of Taiwan, 600 patients had verified intracranial aneurysms (2.1%), constituting only 34.7% of 1,730 patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage. The male to female ratio was 0.68.1. The mean age was 54.6 +/ 14.3 years in men, and 56.5 +/ 13.8 years in women. Among the 409 patients whose aneurysmal sites were recorded, the aneurysm occurred at the anterior communicating a…

[Listeria monocytogenes femoral aneurysm].

Secondary infection of arterial aneurysms being a constantly possible complication, the bacteriological examination of peroperative specimens appears to be appropriate. Among responsible organisms, the presence of Listeria monocytogenes is very rare since only 13 cases have been reported in the literature. It is for this reason that it was felt to be of interest to report a new, entirely similar case of femoral aneurysm.

[Familial dissecting aortic aneurysm].

A family is described in which two brothers (44 and 48 years old) had aortic dissecting aneurysms (the first one died, the other one underwent surgical treatment and is still living) in the absence of clinical features of Marfan syndrome and of systemic hypertension. Two of the six living siblings have aortic dilation on echocardiography. Histologic examination of the aortic wall at autopsy or surgery revealed a loss of elastic fibers, deposition of mucopolysaccaride-like material and medionecrosis. We can postulate a genetically-determined disease of connective tissue usually described as "Ma…

Inflammatory abdominal aortic aneurysm.

Between January 1976 and December 1982, 181 patients with abdominal aortic aneurysms were treated surgically, and in 13 patients the aneurysms were found to be inflammatory. Inflammatory aneurysms of the abdominal aorta (IAAA) share important characteristics with typical atherosclerotic abdominal aortic aneurysms. Diagnosis and surgical management of IAAA are distinctive which suggests that IAAA should be considered separately, as a varient of typical abdominal aortic aneurysms. IAAA occur predominantly in males. The presenting symptoms are often idiosyncratic and include severe abdominal or b…

[Inflammatory abdominal aortic aneurysm].

Between January 1, 1970 and March 1, 1985 530 patients underwent graft replacement of the abdominal aorta for infrarenal aortic aneurysms. 28 (5.3%) patients had inflammatory aneurysmal disease, in 3 cases (10.7%) the aneurysm was ruptured. Operation mortality was 17.3%. Characteristic appearance was an unusually thick aortic wall with diffuse, shiny white fibrotic reaction in the retroperitoneum. In most cases the duodenum, inferior vena cava, left renal vein, transverse mesocolon or the ureter were involved into the inflammatory mass. Thoracic aortic involvement was not observed. Contrast CT…

Hypertension and arterial aneurysm.

The rather common coexistence of arterial aneurysm and systemic hypertension may be attributed to their respective frequency as clinical findings. The development of hypertension secondary to renal ischemia that can occur as a complication of certain types of aneurysmal disease is well recognized. Less well appreciated is the evidence to implicate hypertension as a factor in the pathogenesis of arterial aneurysms, perhaps in their progressive enlargement, and even in rupture. Furthermore, after resection of an aneurysm, systemic hypertension adversely influences survival, and it is an importan…

Intracranial ophthalmic artery aneurysm.

A 45-year old black man with a carotid-ophthalmic artery aneurysm developed sudden loss of vision in his left eye, a mid-dilated pupil, and pain on movement of the left eye. A temporal island of vision was present in the left eye and the right visual field was normal. There were no other neurologic abnormalities. The aneurysm spontaneously ruptured, resulting in the death of the patient.

Postdissection aortic aneurysm sac enlargement after fenestrated and branched endovascular aortic aneurysm repair.

OBJECTIVES: Aneurysm sac changes after fenestrated-branched endovascular aneurysm repair (FBEVAR) for postdissection thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms (PD-TAAs) are poorly understood. Partial thrombosis of the false lumen and endoleaks may impair sac regression. To characterize sac changes after FBEVAR for PD-TAAs, this study examined midterm results and predictors for sac enlargement. METHODS: FBEVARs performed for PD-TAAs in 10 physician-sponsored investigational device exemption studies from 2008 to 2023 were analyzed. The maximum aortic aneurysm diameter was compared between the 30-day co…
