Unusual solid submucosal angioleiomyoma of the upper lip: A case report and review of the literature.

RATIONALE: Angioleiomyoma (ALM) is a rare benign tumor originating from smooth muscle tissue, and its occurrence in the oral cavity is extremely uncommon. Although a few cases involving the upper lip have been reported, most lesions are exophytic or superficially located. Here, we report an unusual solid, submucosal ALM in the upper lip, highlighting its distinctive clinical, imaging, and histopathological features. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 43-year-old male presented with a firm, painless swelling in the upper lip that had gradually enlarged over the past 8 months. The lesion measured 4.0 × 2.0 cm

Intracranial angioleiomyoma: a case series of seven patients and review of the literature.

PURPOSE: Angioleiomyoma, predominantly arising from the extremities, is a benign soft tissue tumor. Reports on its intracranial location are rare. We assessed clinical, radiological, and pathological features of intracranial angioleiomyoma (iALM) treated at our neurosurgical institution. METHODS: We consecutively enrolled all patients with neuropathologically confirmed iALM treated at a single neurosurgical institution between 2013 and 2021. Clinical and imaging data were collected, and histological tissue sections were analyzed. A review of the literature on iALM was conducted. RESULTS: Sev

Current Concepts of Foot and Ankle Angioleiomyoma.

Angioleiomyoma is a benign tumor, which arises from the smooth muscle. It comprises approximately 4.4% of all benign soft tissues' neoplasms and they are commonly located at the lower extremities. They are most frequently found in middle-aged women. Angioleiomyoma is usually presented as a painful solitary lesion in the subcutaneous tissue. Due to the lack of evidence in the literature, the aim of this current concepts review was to provide foot and ankle surgeons the most updated and useful information for diagnosis and management of foot or ankle's angioleiomyoma. The possible diagnosis of a

Pathogenetic Dichotomy in Angioleiomyoma.

BACKGROUND/AIM: Angioleiomyoma is a benign tumor, occurs at any age, and arises most frequently in the lower extremities. Genetic information on angioleiomyomas is restricted to six reported abnormal karyotypes, losses in chromosome 22 and gains in Xq found by comparative genomic hybridization, and mutation analysis of notch receptor 2 (NOTCH2), NOTCH3, platelet-derived growth factor receptor beta (PDGFRB), and mediator complex subunit 12 (MED12) in a few tumors. Herein, we report the genetic findings in another three angioleiomyomas. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The tumors were examined using G-ba

Angioleiomyoma of the Larynx: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Angioleiomyoma is a benign smooth muscle and vessel tumor; laryngeal localization is extremely rare with only 24 cases described in the literature; moreover, it should be considered in the differential diagnosis of laryngeal mass. Endoscopic complete surgical excision with dissection along capsule is now considered the gold-standard treatment for small and well-circumscribed laryngeal angioleiomyoma. We present a case of laryngeal angioleiomyoma successfully treated with carbon dioxide laser technology which resulted in a bleeding reduction and adequate hemostasis with less tissue damage and g

Inclusion bodies are not uncommon in angioleiomyoma.

BACKGROUND: Leiomyomas with eosinophilic intracytoplasmic inclusion bodies have been described in the urinary bladder, brain, gastrointestinal tract, uterus, and oral cavity but not in the skin. Prompted by our recent experience with a case of cutaneous angioleiomyoma with many inclusion bodies, we hypothesized that similar cases might have been previously overlooked. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 30 cases of angioleiomyoma and 10 cases of piloleiomyoma focusing on inclusion bodies. RESULTS: More than 18 inclusion bodies per 250 μm squared were detected in five cases of angioleiomyoma

A rare case of congenital piloleiomyoma of the eyelid.

Cutaneous leiomyoma is an infrequently occurring benign smooth muscle neoplasm of skin. Piloleiomyoma, angioleiomyoma, and genital leiomyoma are the three forms of the cutaneous leiomyoma. Piloleiomyoma arises from arrector pili muscle and is commonly seen in the adult population. Congenital piloleiomyoma is extremely rare and has never been reported to arise from the eyelid. We report a case of a neonate presenting with upper eyelid mass lesion since birth causing mechanical ptosis. Incisional biopsy followed by histopathology and immunohistochemistry established the diagnosis of piloleiomyom

Pediatric Acral Angioleiomyoma: Report of an Unusual Case and Review of the Literature.

BACKGROUND: Angioleiomyoma is a classic painful cutaneous tumor of the limbs of middle aged adults. They are usually a straight-forward histologic diagnosis, being well-circumscribed or encapsulated lesions with both smooth muscle and vascular components. CASE REPORT: We report the case of an angioleiomyoma on the toe of an 8-year-old girl which displayed an unusual plexiform growth pattern. It was treated successfully with surgical excision, with no recurrence at one month. CONCLUSIONS: Angioleiomyoma is uncommon in children, particularly at acral sites. We describe the first such lesion to

A Small Jejunal Angioleiomyoma Detected by Double-Balloon Enteroscopy: A Case Report.

BACKGROUND Angioleiomyoma in the small intestine is a rare cause of gastrointestinal bleeding. Only 7 cases of angioleiomyoma in the small intestine were reported in the English literature, with 4 of them causing gastrointestinal bleeding. The diagnosis of angioleiomyomas in the small intestine before surgery is difficult. CASE REPORT We report the case of a 42-year-old man with recurrent melena who underwent repeated esophagogastroduodenoscopy and colonoscopy, without positive finding. During a double-balloon enteroscopy, an elevated lesion with a diameter of 6 mm was found in the jejunum. Th

Atypical localization of intraosseous angioleiomyoma in the rib of a pediatric patient: a case report.

BACKGROUND: This is the first reported case of a primary intraosseous angioleiomyoma and the second case of a primary leiomyoma of the rib, irrespective of age. Angioleiomyomas mostly occur in patients of advanced age, in any part of the body, particularly the lower extremities and present as painful, slow-growing nodules in the dermis, subcutaneous fat or deep fascia. Other localizations, especially bone, are considered extremely rare, as well as their occurrence in paediatric patients. CASE PRESENTATION: A 10-year-old girl was admitted to the orthopaedic surgery department for further asses

A rare tumour of hand: angioleiomyoma.

Angioleiomyoma is a benign tumour composed of smooth muscle and vascular tissue. Because of the paucity of smooth muscles in the hand other than tunica media of the blood vessels, its occurrence is quite rare in the hand and only few cases are reported in the English literature. We present the case of a 49-year-old man with benign painless swelling on the dorsum of hand. Differential diagnosis of ganglion cyst and tendon sheath tumour were considered. However, excision biopsy revealed angioleiomyoma. At 2-year follow-up, the patient remained asymptomatic with no evidence of recurrence.

Subcutaneous nasal angioleiomyoma: Case of a rare tumor and review of the literature.

We describe the case of a 46-year-old woman with a rare presentation of angioleiomyoma of the subcutaneous nasal tissue. The patient presented with pain and severe nasal obstruction. Her nasal deformity was sufficient to indicate an external rhinoplasty for both extirpation of the tumor and reconstruction of the defect with cartilage grafts. The procedure resulted in successful removal of the tumor and a satisfactory cosmetic outcome.

Oesophageal angioleiomyosarcoma in a cat.

A female spayed domestic longhair cat aged 3 years and 9 months was referred for investigation of regurgitation and weight loss of 2 months' duration. Thoracic radiographs revealed a soft tissue mass within the cranial mediastinum causing focal oesophageal dilation. Computed tomography confirmed a contrast-enhancing mass located cranial to the heart base, possibly originating from the oesophagus. Exploratory thoracotomy revealed an intramural soft tissue mass within the ventral oesophageal wall. Surgical excision of the mass and reconstruction of the oesophagus around an oesophageal tube was p

Cardiac angioleiomyoma in 44 cattle in Japan (1982-2009).

A retrospective study was performed on primary cardiac tumors found in 44 cattle during meat inspection in Japan, using histology, immunohistochemistry, and electron microscopy. The age of affected cattle ranged from 10 to 129 months; 82% were less than 3 years old. In 38 hearts, the tumor was solitary; the remaining 6 hearts had multiple masses. All tumors were subendocardial and involved the papillary muscles and/or cardiac valves. Two histologic patterns were recognized; both included giant cells. Pattern 1 was characterized by interlacing fascicles of spindle-shaped cells; pattern 2 resemb

Leiomyoma of the left renal vein. A report of a case.

Only a few cases of leiomyoma of the vena cava or iliac vein and, according to our knowledge, only one case of renal vein leiomyoma have been reported. We report a patient with leiomyoma of the left renal vein. Tumour resection was performed by resecting a part of the vein along with the tumour and by ligation of the vein. Left kidney drainage was established through the preserved ovarian vein. In order to establish a diagnosis, careful pathologic examination of multiple sections has to be done and because of the potentially malignant behaviour, long-term follow-up after total resection is nec

Angiomyofibroblastoma of the vulva and vagina.

Nine vulvar and three vaginal angiomyofibroblastomas from patients 23 to 71 years of age (mean, 46 yr) were analyzed. The tumors were well circumscribed and ranged from 0.9 to 11 cm (average, 4.7 cm) in maximal dimension. On microscopic examination, they had hypercellular and hypocellular areas. The neoplastic cells were spindle-shaped, plasmacytoid, or epithelioid; a variable number were binucleated or multinucleated cells. A focal storiform pattern was present in one tumor, and, in one tumor, the neoplastic cells formed a collar around a central area of dense collagen. There was no significa

Angioleiomyoma originating from the ano-rectal wall presenting as a perineal mass: a case report.

INTRODUCTION: Angioleiomyoma, a vascular leiomyoma is a rare, benign smooth-muscle tumor observed to occur anywhere in the body, most frequently in the lower extremities but very rarely in the digestive system. Angioleiomyoma in the hindgut is infrequent and in particular, rectal/perianal location has been observed very rarely. CASE REPORT: We describe herein a case of a 50-year-old male patient complaining of perineal discomfort and a swelling at the level of the left ischio-rectal fossa, moderately painful. This solid mass in the left ischio-rectal space was in close relationship with the w
