Anorectal disorders.

Common anorectal disorders can produce one or more of the following symptoms: pain, protrusion, pruritus, bleeding or discharge. The cause may be cryptitis, anal fissure, hemorrhoids, anorectal abscess, fistula in ano, neoplasm, condylomata acuminata, pilonidal cyst or inflammatory bowel disease. Each disorder is suggested by its characteristic history. Adequate examination by proctosigmoidoscopy will usually confirm the presence of the suspected disease.

Anorectal melanoma and seborrheic dermatitis – A case report.

INTRODUCTION: Anorectal melanoma (ARM) is a rare and aggressive neoplasm with predisposition for early infiltration, distant spread, and unfavorable prognosis. It has been speculated that Malassezia yeasts could possibly have an impact on skin carcinogenesis and development of melanoma, especially in patients with seborrheic dermatitis (SD), due to production of aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) agonists. CASE OUTLINE: A 52-year-old man with intensive SD complained of a four-month-long rectal bleeding, tenesmus, pain, and difficulty during defecation. On examination, a rectal tumor was detected

Anal malignant proliferative trichilemmoma: report of a rare case with review of literature.

Trichilemmoma is a rare type of benign cutaneous neoplasm, which derives from outer sheath of hair follicle. It barely develops malignant progression and has rarely been reported in anal cancer. In this article, we report a case of a 73-year-old woman who presented to the outer-patient department with complaints of a ruptured and longstanding anal phyma. All the appearances were atypical. Blood routine examination showed that neutrophilic granulocyte percentage was elevated and suggest it was a simple inflammation response. No evidence of malignancy was detected upon the laboratory examination

Update to the structured MRI report for primary staging of rectal cancer : Perspective from the SAR Disease Focused Panel on Rectal and Anal Cancer.

OBJECTIVE: To review existing structured MRI reports for primary staging of rectal cancer and create a new, freely available structured report based on multidisciplinary expert opinion and literature review. METHODS: Twenty abdominal imaging experts from the Society of Abdominal Radiology (SAR)'s Disease Focused Panel (DFP) on Rectal and Anal Cancer completed a questionnaire and participated in a subsequent consensus meeting based on the RAND-UCLA Appropriateness Method. Twenty-two items were classified via a group survey as "appropriate" or "inappropriate" (defined by ≥ 70% consensus), or "n

Rectal Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumour: A Report of a Rare Case and Literature Review.

Gastrointestinal stromal tumours (GISTs), are an extremely uncommon form of different types of gastrointestinal (GI) malignant neoplasms. While GISTs are the most prevalent type of mesenchymal tumours in the GI tract, they are mainly located in the stomach. Gastrointestinal stromal tumours in the rectum are rarely observed. Some individuals may exhibit symptoms such as constipation, pain in the rectum, bleeding per rectum, or palpable growth, while others may be discovered incidentally. The prevalence of GISTs has been increasing, potentially as a result of developments in imaging techniques.

Perianal Solitary Fibrous Tumor in a Rare Anatomical Presentation: A Case Report and Literature Review.

BACKGROUND Solitary fibrous tumors (SFTs) account for <2% of all soft tissue tumors and are slow-growing neoplasms of mesenchymal origin, which have been reported in various locations. They are frequently observed at the pleura and a perianal location is extremely rare. They show no predisposition by sex, are mainly benign, and usually occur between the 5th and 7th decades of life. CASE REPORT We report the case of an 80-year-old man with no comorbidities except hypertension, who presented with an asymptomatic perineal mass. Magnetic resonance imaging showed a solid tumor measuring 3.5×2.5 cm

Incidence, Risk Factors, and Management of Radiotherapy-Related Skin Toxicity in Rectoanal Cancer Patients: a Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

BACKGROUND: Radiotherapy is essential for rectoanal cancer, but pelvic anatomy and high radiation doses increase radiodermatitis risk, potentially compromising treatment efficacy. No specific meta-analysis exists for this group. METHODS: We systematically searched PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science up to September 2025. Pooled meta-analysis, network meta-analysis, and dose-effect meta-analysis were performed on 50 included studies (n = 4,892). RESULTS: The overall radiodermatitis incidence was 58.7% (95% CI: 55.2%-62.1%), including severe (Grade ≥ 3, 12.3%) and moist desqua

[Verrucous carcinoma of the anus or Buschke-Lowenstein tumor of the anus: staging and treatment. Report of 3 cases].

INTRODUCTION: Giant condyloma acuminatum or Buschke Lowenstein tumor of the anorectal and perianal regions is an uncommon entity that commonly affects genitalia. These are slow-growing, expansive, cauliflower-like, destructive lesions that could propagate to vulvar and vaginal region, rectum and bladder. The hallmark of the disease is the high rate of recurrence (66%) and malignant transformation (56%). No distant metastases usually occur. The median number of recurrences are 2 (range, 1-7). MATERIALS AND METHODS: At the Oncological Surgical Department, University of Turin, three patients wer

[Anal endosonography in the diagnosis of anal neoplasm].

Anal endosonography is a highly accurate imaging method in the diagnosis of rectal carcinoma. Its ability to visualise the layered structure of the anal canal enables local staging of the tumour of the anal canal. Also, the assessment of the perirectal tissues by means of endosonography, is useful in visualisation of enlarged lymph nodes. In patients after radiotherapy or chemotherapy, anal endosonography is used as the follow-up examination.
