Type 2 Diabetes Risk Among Older Asian, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Patients With Head and Neck Cancer in the United States.

Diabetes is one of the most prevalent comorbidities among patients with head and neck cancer (HNC), and its burden is disproportionately higher in Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (ANHPI) populations. However, the incidence and risk factors for diabetes among ANHPI HNC patients remain unknown. The aim of our study was to examine the incidence and risk factors of developing Type 2 diabetes among older (≥ 66 years of age) ANHPI HNC patients in the United States, as well as differences across ANHPI subgroups. Using the SEER-Medicare linked database, we identified Non-Hispanic

Differences in cancer incidence by broad ethnic group in England, 2013-2017.

BACKGROUND: Cancer incidence variation between population groups can inform public health and cancer services. Previous studies have shown cancer incidence rates vary by ethnic group in England. Since their publication, the completeness of ethnicity recording in cancer data has improved, and relevant inequalities (e.g. risk factor prevalence and healthcare access) may have changed. METHODS: Age-standardised incidence rates were calculated for Asian, Black, Mixed/Multiple and White ethnic groups in England in 2013-2017, using almost 3 million diagnoses across 31 cancer sites. Rate ratios were

Comparative efficacy and safety of Glucagon-like pepetide-1 receptor agonists with metformin in Asian versus non-Asian patients with type 2 diabetes: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

AIMS: In type 2 diabetes, glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) in combination with metformin show better efficacy than metformin alone. Nevertheless, the reactions of different ethnic groups, especially Asian and non-Asian populations, are still controversial. To give clinical medication usage an evidence-based foundation, this meta-analysis examined GLP-1RAs' safety and efficacy when combined with metformin in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Up to January 2025, systematic searches for randomised controlled trials were carried out in PubMed, E

Association between household composition and severe COVID-19 outcomes in older people by ethnicity: an observational cohort study using the OpenSAFELY platform.

BACKGROUND: Ethnic differences in the risk of severe COVID-19 may be linked to household composition. We quantified the association between … erational living and living alone were associated with severe COVID-19 in older adults. Older South Asian people are over-represented within multigenerational households in England, especially in the most deprived settings, whereas a substantial proportion of White older people live alone. The number of generations in a household, number of occupants, ethnicit …

Vascular Regenerative Cell Deficiencies in South Asian Adults.

BACKGROUND: South Asian individuals shoulder a disproportionate burden of cardiometabolic diseases. OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study w … thnicity was independently associated with lower ALDHhiSSClowCD133+ cell count. CONCLUSIONS: South Asian people with cardiometabolic disease had less vascular regenerative and reparative cells suggesting compromised vessel repair capabilities that may contribute to the excess vascular risk in this population. (The Role of South Asian vs European Origins on Ci …

A report of 5 Indian families with multicentric carpotarsal osteolysis syndrome.

Multicentric carpotarsal osteolysis syndrome (MCTO) is a rare autosomal dominant skeletal dysplasia characterised by swelling and restriction of movement in the wrist and ankle joints, as well as osteolysis of the carpal and tarsal bones, that can be misdiagnosed as juvenile idiopathic arthritis. We describe five Indian families with heterozygous nonrecurrent missense pathogenic variants in exon 1 of MAF bZIP transcription factor B (MAFB).

Assessing the Quality of Global Clinical Practice Guidelines on Gout Using AGREE II Instrument.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to assess the quality of global clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) on gout.
